Different kind of school fundraiser vent.

Just wanted to vent in a "neutral" place.

DS' school fundraiser is giving me headaches for all the wrong reasons. I have interested buyers. What I don't have is product.
I'm supposed to turn in "all money and unsold product" soon. I can't find anyone who can tell me how/when to get the product.
My order form only lists columns for names, donation amounts, and total $ for product sold.
I have no place to list which product or what quantity.
I don't know that I should have faith that if I write in the product quantities next to the names, I will get the products.

Here's the kicker - most of DS' class has met their goals. I can only assume they were able to solicit donations or their parents just wrote a check.
I'm happy to write a check, but that misses the point.

Re: Different kind of school fundraiser vent.

  • Can I just vent that I hate school fundraisers! Being a former teacher and a parent who likes the extra things that fundraising can buy I hate that my son is asked to sell something EVERY month! I refuse. I will buy ONE thing from each fundraiser, but my parents have 12 grandkids and I won't ask them to buy crap they don't really want.

There needs to be a better way!

  • DS1 is in K and we have our first fundraiser.  They're selling cups, sports themed cups.  Get 4 regular or 2 travel cups for $18.  DS1 was given a sample cup to bring home (which is already my first issue, what if he'd lost it).  There's probably 600 kids in his school and they have a goal to sell 1000 sets.  I'm curious how many fundraisers they'll do each year.

  • I love what my elementary kids have for a fundraiser, they only have a school fun run and the students have pledge sheets so you can pledge a flat rate or pledge x amount per lap. We get nothing in return, except very happy kids! At preschool our big event is an adult social event with auctions. Which is a lot if fun too!

  • Well, his really encourages also getting donations, but for all the times I've heard people say "I wish I could just make a donation and skip buying this crap" I only managed to raise $20 when I asked for donations. LOL

I finally got answers to all my questions, though I'm still not happy with the process. I wish I had the kind of work schedule that would allow me to commit to the PTC so I could try to get on a committee (or even just attend a meeting).
