We recently hired a full time nanny and pay her a flat rate every week. We have worked out what will happen pay wise when she takes a vacation but I'm wondering what you do when the you take a vacation?
Can I ask what you pay a nanny each week? I'm searching for childcare options for the future.... depends where you are from- in northern new jersey/NYC...the going rate is about $15-$20/hr (although I really had a hard time finding someone who would even take $15)
In Chicago, the going rate is $10-$15 but I've never found anyone for even $10. We got our nanny at a steal because we stole her from a daycare where she was being paid $9 an hour and also because she gets to bring her son with her, so we actually pay her about $9 an hour which is unheard of.

We pay a little over what daycare here pays in a low COL area. It's a little under $9 per hour. I know our nanny much prefers being a nanny to working in a daycare and we are willing to be flexible with her so even though the pay may be close to the same, I think she enjoys it more and she gets some schedule flexibility out of it. Not to mention we travel all the time and she's off like at least 2 days a month paid.
We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!

We are in Central Florida and the going rate is $10-15 per hour. We started out paying $10 per hour with an average of about 30 hours but some weeks ended up being less because we were only paying per the number of hours. We talked about it and for the sake of consistency for her and us we now pay her a flat rate of $300 per week for about 40 hours but, she has some flexibility in the schedule and all holidays, vacations, sick days etc... she still gets paid. So it worked out for her and us. And as it turns out she is amazing with our boys so we do plan to increase that a little after 6 months.
Our nanny gets two weeks vacation, one week when we go away and one week of their choosing. We plan in advance so they can put something together themselves or just hang out for the week.
