April 2014 Moms

Funny Initials

This is something random that just popped into my head. Do any of you April moms have initials that spell out a word, and did you ever get teased about it? I try to take this into consideration when brainstorming but I end up ruling out so many good names. I'm just worried my child will get teased if their initials spell out, for instance, "EMO" or "BLO."

Incidentally, my DD's initials are fine but in monogram form they spell out "LOL." Hee hee.

Both me and my two brothers all had the initials BJ. What were my parents thinking?!

And NOW my married name initials are BAD. Literally - B.A.D.

So yeah, I've had a lifetime of bad initials haha... but it doesn't really ever affect me. (Even with monograms, at least the D is in the middle.)

  • My initials before i was married spelled out ARM.  Kids had a blast with that one, but it definitey could have been worse!

  • I definitely think about initials. Mine were fine growing up and are still fine. The only person I knew that had initials that spelled something was my best friend Samantha..and her initials spelled SAM which I thought was awesome
  • I definitely think about initials and monograms a lot. Don't know how people miss it!
  • ALN.DRP.MRN.MRT
    I guess nothing too crazy!
  • For our boy it would be TJL, which isn't bad at all except my BIL and MIL have already made comments about calling him TJ. [-X

  • My initials before and after marriage are MAW, DS are JEW.
  • Mine before marriage were HAMP and after marriage HAMS.

  • The initials for the girls name I was thinking of spell out SOA, my husband is a big Sons of Anarchy fan so he loved the initials, however most people probably would not get it.

  • Kids will find a way to tease no matter what, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.  DD's initials are SAW.

  • I can honestly say that I've never paid attention to anyone's initials, ever. And that I don't even know most of my friends' middle names so it's never been relevant. It took me forever to realize that my husband's screen name when we met online included his initials, MRT.

But I come from a culture that doesn't really do middle names, so I don't use mine (which, since I was born in the US was somehow required on my birth certificate) even on official documents. It's not on my passport or my ID.

  • My initials are SLC and hubby's are DC. Our baby will be either JLC- that's the girl name, or XDC the boy name. :)
  • No, but for this baby we are thinking of a name that happens to give our baby the initials of NEW.

  • Not currently though if we have a son his initials will be GEK and Im totally gonna use the nickname geko for him!

  • Before I was married my initials were ELF. I'm super sad its not anymore lol.
  • As for the teasing, my last name was Farmer, so my initials were hardly of any interest lol. But being teased as a kid made me love my last name more as an adult (when people will call you by your last name and not tease you)
  • My initials are ARF, I really didn't want them and it made me consider using my maiden as my middle, but I really like my middle name! I just initial things "AF" now. (Which makes me think of Aunt Flo but whatever)

When we had my son, I was interested in some A names, but with the middle we chose his initals would have been ALF, which my husband was very against. I thought it was kind of dumb because no one's going to think of some 80s show when my LO is growing up. But oh well. We ended up with ILF.

  • I always think about initials....mine before marriage was NAM, now NAR. Thinking that one choice of baby's initials may be CAR. I kinda like it.

  • Before I got married my initials were HAM. Now I'm married to a pig farmer. Hmmmm....

  • This is causing real problems with us coming up with girl names. I want Anne as a middle name and our last name starts with D so lots of first names spell things - BAD, SAD, NAD, MAD, FAD... I'm thinking we should try to find an R name to get RAD.

One name we really like would be FML...I am hesitant because of it!  I'm sure initials do mean nothing...but every time I think of, it bugs me.

  • My initials used to be LAP.  When I was a kid, I pretended it meant I was gifted since my initials spelled an actual word.  I was jealous of my friend's initials that spelled EGG.

  • My initials are EAR, and my friends and family tease me affectionately. Doesn't get better if you leave out the middle initial...ends up as ER :P We nixed a boys middle name for LO because the initials would have been NPR. Cannot have a child too closely associated with news radio...the least we could do is spell something interesting, if we must!
  • Mine were TV before I married. DD's are PG. :)

Meh - I've never really though about initials. Kids don't really know each other's middle names, I don't think, so as long as it's not a swear word or something really horrible, I'm not too concerned.
