Trying to Get Pregnant

HELP!!! Is this a positive OPK?

Hi Ladies!

This is our first month trying to conceive. We have been using the CVS OPK to help us pin point ovulation. These things are so confusing to read. I think to this point I have what some have called a fade in pattern. Yesterday was some what dark and then I got this one this afternoon. Part of today's test line was as dark as the control but not the entire line. EWCM started this evening as well. I am currently CD 19 in a usual 31 day cycle

    Yes.

ETA:  After actually enlarging it, I might agree with the others, but it's damn close.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

  • Hmm, I'd say negative actually. I got one similar to that a week or so ago and then it faded again. When I got my first actual positive the two lines were identical. Keep testing and HIO anyway.
  • TravelingCouple. Did you ever get a positive the cycle that it faded again? I am pretty regular in terms of getting AF every 30-31 days. However, I usually ovulate sooner than this. I am afraid if it doesn't happen soon I wont have a long enough LP.
  • Not yet.  But I'd get to humping.

  • I've never used OPKs but to me this is either positive or VERY close. Happy Humping ;)

  • Sometimes, you won't get a true positive. Just HIO.

@matthewandkatrina2012 Yes I did get a positive that cycle and it's very obvious when it's positive. If you ovulate later than usual, your cycle will just be longer than 30 days. Your LP stays the same. I am all too familiar with long cycles and ovulating late. Even if you ovulate late this month, you could O on your "regular" schedule next month.

I call this a negative. When mine start getting dark, I test twice a day, twelve hours apart (only for about three days total). If this were my stick, I'd get to smushing.
  • I too agree with the ladies above, very close but still negative.....
  • I would consider that a positive. I would just keep testing till you get a true negative. In the meantime, HIO.

  • I'm having trouble understanding OPKs myself.  I tested 12 hours apart yesterday and the first one was a definite negative while the second had an EXTREMELY faint line.  My cervix was higher than it was earlier that day so I took my chances and HIO.

My question is, should you feel rushed if/when you get a positive OPK?  I know some say you'll O within 24 hours soooo I'm not really sure how this works.Help?

@aim1218 Some women, like me, can show an LH line in an OPK all month. Mine varies from light to almost positive and light again. It's only positive when you get the two identical lines on the test. Your cervix changes position throughout the day so if you're checking that make sure to check around the same time each day. Never hurts to HIO just in case but most people O 12-36 hours of a positive OPK.

Ok, so how about this - I took another OPK this morning and it showed a slightly darker positive than yesterday, I know they have to match for it to be definite, but could it be possible that my LH is gradually increasing and I should expect O soon?  I apologize if I seem redundant or just outright dumb, OPKs are completely new to me and I'm not sure how to read them, pregnancy tests are much easier, you get the lines it's a done deal! None of this in between crap -_-

  • It's very close. Mine looked the same this morning. I usually get a true positive later the same day or the next morning.

@aim1218 everyone is different so it's impossible to know until you get your positive if your surge is slowly coming. Trust me, when it's +, you'll know. It's dead obvious. For me, I get a ton of surges (aka almost positives) all month that die down again until I get my positive. Last month I didn't even get a positive opk but it was a loss cycle so I don't really count that one. Your best bet is to keep testing until you get your positive. OPKs are very annoying, yes, and take a lot of patience.

  • Thank you!  DH and I still HIO every other day so maybe if I miss an OPK I'll at least still have my chances, I've noticed my temp has started to climb too so that may be a good sign.  GL to you and happy O!! :-]

  • Everyone has been such a huge help! I decide to post a pick of the last four days. I have test morning, noon, and night. I think I may have finally gotten a + this morning. Thoughts?
  • Grrr! Now that I see it uploaded on the screen it doesn't look at dark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zoomed in it looks so close
  • I think the last one is definitely a positive. Although I would say from personal experience that when I am closest to O I get a test line that is actually darker than the other line. I am sure it is different for everyone though. I count my opks positive if they are the same color even if I expect to get a darker one when I am closest to O.

  • Thanks Jckeown89! This has been driving me nuts. I see that we started trying at the same time :) Best wishes to you. I am curious what the other ladies think who thought my other "dark" one was still negative.
