Babies on the Brain

uc and ttc

Does anyone here have ulcerative colitis? I'm going to my specialist today but was hoping for an insider take on if it impacted getting pregnant or having a healthy baby? I'm currently on prednisone which I know I won't be able to take during pregnancy (good! My face is so fat and puffy! Moon face aka sex repellent face) any insight would be awesome! !!

Re: uc and ttc

  • I have Crohn's disease, and had a flare during my first tri with DD1. I can't take Asacol, so I was on prednisone for about three months, which helped get things under control, and DD1 was just fine. My doctors felt the risk in taking the medication was much less than the risks involved with a major flare. I've had 2 pregnancies, 2 healthy babies. Other than the first tri prednisone with DD1, the only impact my CD had was scheduled c-sections because of a history of vaginal fistulas. Ask your OB and GI doc what they recommend for delivery. Best of luck to you!

I have UC and have had two successful pregnancies. With my first, I actually went into remission while pregnant and was able to stay off regular meds for 3 years as I had no active disease. With my second I started having issues at the end of pregnancy (to go along with my unrelated pregnancy complications). I ended up flaring severely aftee DS2'S birth and ended up in the ER, on pred, and finally had to get an iron infusion because my ferritin was practically nonexistant.

My GI always told me that, in his experience, it is a crap shoot as to how your body is going to react to pregnancy. Basically, a third flare, a third go into remission, and a third see no change.
