DH and I are gadget people so I periodically like to talk about the gadget we got and loved or hated. Because we are just getting over the plague, I thought I would review our Nosefrida.
https://www.fridababy.com/shop/fridababy-mat/I ordered mine from Amazon, but had not used it prior to this last bout of snots which passed through our lives and opted for the hospital bulb instead. When I got the package and opened it, I was unimpressed by the simple design and thought it wouldn't work very well. I was grumpy thinking I had wasted money on yet another useless piece of plastic.
Then, one desperate night last week when the bulb thing wasn't working I asked DH to find the Nosefrida.
I put a couple of drops of saline in LO's nose and tentatively sucked on the mouth piece end of the Nosefrida and got a crap ton of snot out. I was finally able to get LO cleared enough to breath. It was awesome. While the design is incredibly simple it is also effective. A couple of things I am slightly critical of - the piece that goes into the nose and the "cap" that is attached to the tubing do stay together without being held. I'm sure this is designed as a safety feature, but trying to use it in the half light, with a screaming baby for the first time, it was very frustrating, but once I got the hang of it, I didn't mind it as much. I loved that I had control over the strength and duration of the suction, which I did not have as much of with the bulb.
I suspect there will be many more plagues in this house as we have a toddler and I'm happy to have the Nosefrida in my arsenal of things to help get the LOs the sleep they need while they are recovering.
Anyone else have a good Nosefrida experience? This company also makes "The Windi"
https://www.fridababy.com/shop/windi-for-gas-relief/ which you will never see me review. I can get around doing the snot sucking thing... but not this. It creeps me out.
Re: Nosefrida
I bought one for a friend as a joke gift but I think I need to actually get myself one now... Our whole family has the crud and somehow DD is avoiding it so far but she started sneezing a ton today which is exactly how I always know I am getting a cold.

Just so you know, my DD still cries when I do it, I think mostly over the saline drops, but after - when she can breathe - that is one happy Panda baby.

I wouldn't try the windi though...weird!!!
Is it necessary to use the saline drops every time? Maybe that has been the problem.
While on the subject of snot I'll also recommend Boogie Wipes (saline moistened nose wipes) for when they get a bit older. They help minimize getting a raw nose from using a lot of kleenexes during a cold.
Thanks ladies! I have bad lung capacity due to asthma as well. That's most likely part of the problem as well. I really want to like this thing, will keep trying!
