April 2014 Moms

For all STM+ moms, how did you tell your LO's they would be big brothers or sisters?

So now that we have the all clear on our test results, we can finally tell DS he is going to be a big brother.  For those of you who have told your LO's already. how did you tell them?  He is 8 so definitely old enough to get it.

I just showed my DD the u/s picture. She knew exactly what it meant because she remembered seeing them from when I was pregnant with her brother. When I was pregnant with her brother I just told her, then told her to go tell daddy that she was going to be a big sister.

    EDIT: Good Luck!

  • Ha, DD's only one and a half, so she's clueless. I've told her a few times I have a baby in my tummy and she thinks it's some sort of hilarious joke :)

  • My LO's are not so little any more 14, 11, 12 and we had them go on a scavenger hunt around the house and the last clue led them to paper bags that each had shirts in them. For the oldest it said "Big sisters Rock" the middle child it said "Big Brothers Rock" and for our youngest it said "I'm going to be a big sister 2014"  and after a few seconds....there were screams of joy!!
  • My DS is 3 and he's borderline Autistic, so what I did was told him that there's a baby in my tummy and he is the big brother. Now I can asks him where's the baby and he points to my belly.
  • We sat down with our DS and told him
he was finally going to be a big brother and we had the fetal doppler set up so we all listened to the baby's heartbeat together. He was very excited!

We told our 3 year old and she said there are 5 babies in mommys belly and she wants them to all sleep with her! She got very sad that night when she realized she couldn't sleep with the baby yet, but we filled her bed with her baby dolls and now she sleeps with one of them every night! (And the 8 week sonogram showed only one, not 5!)
  • he is 10 months old so he didn't get it but I told him.

He's only 16 months so he didn't really get it, but I just told him straight out. I point to my stomach all the time and tell him that's where the baby lives right now. He likes looking at pictures of babies and listening to me talk about what the new baby will be like (sleeping, eating etc) but I doubt he'll really 'get it' until the actual baby is here.

  • My son is only 16 months so he doesn't really understand yet.  He gives the baby kisses and hugs though and we read a lot of books with baby photos in them and talk about what babies do.

  • We read a book about mom having a baby to my 2.5 year old and explained that there is a baby in my belly. At first I wasn't sure if he got it, but he asks to hug, kiss, and talk to the baby all the time now. He told me he will play with "her" when she "comes out."
