I need portable finger food ideas

DS3 is in a parent's day out program one day a week and I have to bring his lunch.  He is almost done with purees and much prefers table food.  I'm stumped on what to send though as I usually just feed him whatever I'm eating.  They can't warm anything up which rules out a ton of his current favorites.  Any ideas?

Re: I need portable finger food ideas

  • How about making it a light lunch and then having an earlier dinner that night? Hummus with carrot sticks, crackers, tortillas, whatever? A rice salad with tuna and peas? I have no idea what he and you eat, but I would go more with light salad-y ideas and then, like I said, just have an earlier dinner or plan a bigger snack on those days than he usually has.

  • will they help feed him? i know you say finger foods but do you more mean table foods?

if so...ham and cheese on crackers, let him take little bites. Berries/other fruit cut up very small. Pasta salad of some type.

  • No fridge available for lunches, bottles only. He prefers to feed himself so something he can eat without utensils.  There are only two other kids in his room but they said he keeps eyeing their food and getting mad he isn't eating what they are having.

  • I would just pack him whatever he would normally be eating in a lunchbox that has a freezer pack in it, so it stays cold.  Fresh fruit, cooked veggies (getting him used to eating them cold would be a good idea so he learns to eat foods at all temperatures), beans, a slice of homemade bread, take a block of cheese and shred it, cooked ground meat, cooked noodles with broth.
