Question for tall moms

Hi,  question for those taller ladies out there.  I am 18 weeks along and have NO bump.  I'm 5'10 and about a size 6/8.  I've heard that taller women show later just for the fact that their torsos are longer and the baby has more space.  I also know that one's first pregnancy takes longer to show, but... I feel like it's getting kind of weird to not have any bump/size change at all.  I've gained about 5 lbs, but it must all be in my boobs and butt :)
And if there are any 2nd time taller moms out there - I'm wondering when you started to show with your first and if your belly stayed on the smaller size through your pregnancy?
Thanks!!!   BabyFetus Ticker

  • I'm the same (and 5'10" too). I'm 19+1 and look a little thicker but that's it. If I haven't told someone I'm pregnant they wouldn't know. The comments are starting to mess with my head, honestly. "Are you sure there's a baby in there" and "oh wow, you really don't look pregnant" have made me start getting crazy brain wondering if the baby is ok. Part of me wants to buy a doppler.

  • I'm a ftm and 6'. At 17 weeks my sister in law just thinks I'm showing a bit as off last night. Anyone who doesn't know I'm pregnant wouldn't be able to tell. I'm wearing maternity pants mostly just for the comfort of the elastic waistband but my regular clothes otherwise.

  • Here are two pics of my belly my first time. 20 weeks in yellow, 27 weeks in pink. I am also 5'9"-5'10"ish. I also ended up having a 10lb baby but you wouldn't think it from these pics. ;)
  • I'm 6' and with my first I popped around 20 weeks, and it looks like this one will be the same. Just thicker looking. And like some of the PP's have said, you'll have the belly sooner than you think. For me it was literally, looked fat one day, and then BOOM an actual belly the next. It was nuts!

  • I've heard this too. if you're tall with a long torso it takes forever to show. my aunt who's 6'2" was just like that. buuuut I'm 5'10" and show normally but it's because my build is very long legs (36 inseam. yikes) and I have a short waist/ torso so I showed like any other woman really :/
  • I'm 5'8, usually a size 2/4 and have a long torso. I didn't think I'd start showing until after 20 weeks but I'm def showing at 18. I've already felt movement from the outside too! Totally unexpected.
Everyone's different but it seems like I'm the minority among tall girls.
  • I didn't start showing with my first until 19 weeks. The next few weeks after that I just had a tiny bump. After that, it got bit pretty quickly! I definitely ended up with a good size bump. That being said, I also gained more than I wanted to, which I'm sure contributed.

With this one, I didn't start showing until almost 15 weeks, which seems to be a little on the later side, considering I have a 15 month old. I don't have a very big bump right now, just a bump that could be mistaken for some extra cupcakes.

Thanks for the pictures!! That is exactly the kind of thing I was wondering... but felt really creeping googleing pictures of tall pregnant women. haha.

All of my friends and family are shorter than me so I don't have someone I can compare myself to and I am so tired of hearing comments about my lack of a bump!

    I know that it
will come eventually, but I can't make up my mind if I'm happy that I don't have a bump yet or if I want it to be visible already!  If it keeps me on the smaller side in the long run then I won't complain too much....

  • I'm 5' 7" with an average to low BMI and i'm BARELY showing and haven't really gained a pound.  Lately I'm obsessed with looking at pictures of my friends when they were pregnant and determining how far along they were at the time.  Really though it's a waste of time and stress.  I will admit, I borrowed a friend's doppler and it has eased my nerves.

In the AM when I'm getting dressed I notice a slight pudge but that's really it.  My regular skinny jeans etc fit perfectly.  It's kind of a blessing in disguise!  I'm not buying maternity clothes until I absolutely have to!  ;)
  • I'm 5'8" and I noticed changes in my belly very early on (with my first pregnancy definitely by 10-11 weeks, though no one in public was probably able to notice). However, I have a very low BMI so there wasn't much padding to hide anything.

  • I'm 5'10 too! I can either look 8 weeks preg, 18 weeks preg, or 28 weeks preg, depending on how much I let it hang lol.  I'll show you a ridiculous succession of photos I just took.  The top pic, I'm contracting my abs.  Middle pic, I'm just standing normal.  Bottom pic I'm pushing it out/letting everything relax out.  People still don't know I'm pregnant if I don't tell them, and this is #2.  The first time around I didn't have a bump till abt 20 weeks. And I had a 10 lber.

  • I'm average height, and at almost 19 weeks I have no belly, unless I am super bloated/constipated, and even then I can hold it all in, but at that point I can "let it out". I think it's normal to not show for a while with your first, and if you are tall, you'll show less and later.

  • Same here. 18 weeks and 6' 2". No one knows I'm preg unless I tell them. I don't think I'll be showing through my scrubs until about 7 months.

  • Enjoy it, coming from a vertically challenged person here at 5'3" and 15 weeks (also baby #3) I am noticallably pregnant! I look like I swallowed a balloon, I still have my chicken legs and chicken arms. The looks on people's faces when they ask when I am due and I say march is priceless!!!

I'm your opposite! I'm 5'3" FTM and showing like crazy at 18 weeks. People have noticed. I've been showing since late first tri but it's undeniable now. And I'm all belly- baby has nowhere to go but OUT since I'm so short.

  • I really think it depends on each person. I am exactly the same size as you. 5'10" and size 6-8. I showed very early and you can totally tell im pregnant. I am all legs though so my torso is not as long.

  • I'm 5'10" and didn't look even slightly pregnant until 23 weeks with my first. I started wearing maternity jeans at that time and I think it helped me look more round and less bloated.
