Clothing question

I was gifted an absolute ton of short sleeve 0-3 month onesies, which DD is JUST now starting to fit in (she's almost 7 weeks). In any case, it is starting to cool down now, and I was wondering what I should do with them. I hate the idea of just dressing her in just short sleeves and pants. We use blankets when we leave the house, but I still would prefer her to wear long sleeves. The problem is, I'd still like to use them and have her wear them when we are out since a bunch of them are adorable. Should I layer them over a neutral long sleeve onesie? Has anyone done that? Any thoughts?

Plus, does anyone have a way to keep socks on their baby's feet? I had a hard time finding footed pants, so I'm stuck with putting socks on her and she kicks them off constantly.

Re: Clothing question

  • I totally layer l/s under s/s.

They're not cheap but have you looked at Trumpette socks? They're the only socks I've ever gotten to stay on baby's feet.

  • I would layer, especially if you live some place where it gets pretty cold. As far as socks, it is a never ending battle with Jr.

  • I think the layered look will work well for cooler weather.

Regarding socks? I got lucky and have a baby with chubby ankles so all his socks stay put.

  • What about little cardigans? We're having the same issues with Ezra; little peanut is still in newborn!

  • I would layer. My son has chunky legs so socks don't seem to be an issue for us.

That's an idea. We put a 0-3 month cardigan on her yesterday that came with an outfit she has and it was HUGE. The outfit was a bit big too, but we were going to brunch and I wanted her to be in some fun clothes.

@Jill9288 This was obviously brought on by the cool front that blew through here in STL. Maybe I'll take MIL and run to BRU today and see what I can find.

Thanks! I will look into Trumpette socks. DD is so skinny and her ankles are tiny!

  • I'm having the same issue since I'm trying to reuse the same clothes from my big one. He was in 3-6mo by the time it got cold and these peanuts are just out of NB.

I bought some long sleeve onesies and a couple hoodies. The issue w the hoodies is that they ride up all the time.

Socks are a never ending battle. Trumpette work. I've found some in walmart actually that stay on, but it was years ago and I don't remember the brand.

  • We have the same issue, LO is almost 6 weeks and still in newborn.  Most of my newborn stuff is summer stuff, so I've been layering.

  • @Corraggiosa, right? I woke up yesterday and was able to turn to a/c off, but then had to shut the windows because it was so cold in the house!

Regarding socks, we've actually had pretty good luck w/ Carters

  • We just put her socks up over the bottom of her pants and they stay on.

  • I usually later over short sleeves so I have flexibility--for example I wear her in a moby so sometimes when indoors I need to strip her down before she's comfy in the carrier. Old school knitted/crocheted booties always stayed on DD1, as well as smartwool baby socks (LOVE them but they're pricey). Right now we just tuck DD2's pants into the socks. It offends my (admittedly poor) fashion sense, but she doesn't seem to mind :-)

  • We use the short sleeved onesie as a teeshirt when it gets cold.   Additionally, when we swaddle, I use the short sleeved onesie, so he doesn't get over heated.

We have found socks, from puma that stay on DS's feet and we have been using them.
  • We live in NC so cooler weather hasn't been a problem, but when traveling north it was a little chillier and we used zip up thin hoodies or cardigans also we have a couple if those long sleeve shirts that snap closed.
  • I would layer! I hate socks, they will never stay on her little feet! They are all huge.

I bought mostly all summer NB clothing and a few sleepers, since we have August babies. Well, here it is Fall and getting cool... And she is still in NB! So I am having clothing issues too.

I love robeez shoes for babies. My baby is wearing them right now.
  • My LO wears these as undershirts, every day.
  • I hit up a second hand shop and got 3 sweet jackets. I hated that everytime I tried to find just a jacket it always came in a set. I also found some flannel shirts I bought too. I figure I can get thru oct and nov w long sleeved flannels and jackets over onesies.
  • I layer with long sleeve and/or use sweaters.

Walmart is my go to for both these issues.  Cheap Garanimals long sleeve white onesies under short sleeve ones.  I did this with DD and have already started with DS.  And their socks are the only ones that stay on.  I believe they are Faded Glory brand and come in like a 10 pack, they are the style that fold down.  There is a pack with white, teal, purple, and dark and light pink, and an all white pack.  They are technically girl socks but we bought the white pack for DS because I couldn't fund and that stayed on.  Eta: both babies had skinny legs and these socks worked great! They have never come off this far...

  • I would layer too! I got a couple cute jackets at a carters outlet and at baby gap, maybe a couple of those will help you too(not in sets).  I'm having a similar problem, my kid is so huge at 10 weeks he has 100% grown out of every brand 0-3 months and 3 months. We got so many outfits, I have been sticking him in 2 a day and taking his picture so the people that bought him see him in it. And the long sleeve things are going to be tough because it's 90 degrees here! and he runs pretty hot! I'll send you our long sleeve stuff to put under clothes :-P
  • We layer and I put her socks over the bottom of her pants (very 80s but works).
  • I also layer with white onesies or use a sweatshirt/ sweater.

The trumpeter socks are great and were the only socks that would not fall off of dd1
