Are Sunday afternoon birthday parties annoying?

Every year for my daughter (well, since shes been about 9) we have a family party and then a friend party, and we try to have them on the same day (family over from 11-3, then friends come over from 5-8 or something along those lines) .  This year, DH inadvertently made plans in the evening on the Saturday that we planned to have her party.   I am NOT having 6-8 10 and 11 year olds over without him. So I'm thinking about holding her friend party on Sunday early afternoon, like 11-1, which kind of works because she wants to have high tea (such a cute idea).   Would that time annoy you as a parent?  I try to leave Sundays alone for church, relaxation, yada yada, but its that or a Friday at 6-8.

Re: Are Sunday afternoon birthday parties annoying?

  • I don't mind Sunday afternoons at all, but 11 would be too early for most of my friends to make it due to church.  If many people go to church 1-3 might be better.

  • I agree, 11 might be a bit too early. We like 10:00 mass, so we would be late for an 11:00 party. But 1 would work!

I do not mind Sunday parties either. I think it will fit in perfectly with the tea party theme-which I love btw :)

A good point PP brought up was church on Sunday mornings. Do you know offhand if many of her friends go to church on Sundays? It probably will not be an issue with everyone.

  • I feel that I would like a Sunday party because I could drop my kid off and have a nice quiet relaxing afternoon break... Unless the parents aren't all going too.

  • Yeah  I agree 1-3 might be a batter time. We did DDs 1st birthday yesterday at 1, I think that timing is great:) I did a tea party around that age too! It was a ton of fun...we decorated tea cups and had fancy food..I think she'll have a ton of fun!

  • And 11-1 is lunch time, meaning I'd be expecting my child to be fed more than just snacks.  1-3 is a good time.  The other idea is to swap your family and friend parties, and do your DD's on Saturday, reserving Sunday for family.

  • If my 3 year old's friends did 11-1 I's be annoyed because that's naptime. But your daughter and her friends no longer nap so that would be fine with me. We also don't attend church.

  • I have never been annoyed by a Sunday party (but I don't go to church either).  Sunday parties are just as common as Saturday parties among my group of friends.  High tea sounds great for that age group.  Have fun!

  • As long as it isn't at night on Sunday I don't mind them.
  • Yes, we would still be in church at that time.   After 1 would be better on a Sunday, or at least in my social circle.

  • I wouldn't mind a Sunday afternoon party either. I agree with making it later in the afternoon if most of the people invited regularly attend church.

I love a Sunday afternoon party. We don't go to church though, so perhaps that might be an issue for others.

  • Considering the ages of the girls, I'm guessing the parents would just be dropping off and picking up?  A Sunday party wouldn't bother me as long as it didn't interfere with my football watching (also not a church-goer) :)

  • I think it's totally fine (but I'm not a church goer).

  • Not at all. I'd do like 1 or so for those that go to church on Sunday mornings, but I actually like Sunday parties -- our Sundays are pretty quiet, so it's nice to have something to do every now and then.

  • Maybe I'm being mean but you seriously can't handle the girls in your own? I think FI would make plans not to be there on purpose!

I don't think I ever went to kids parties where the dad was "involved".

But to answer your question, sunday wouldn't bother me, I don't go to church and live in a country where not many people do, but I wouldn't mind any time on sunday.
