It's a boy...

My SIL had a baby boy this morning! This leads me to a question...

They now have two boys. I have one. DH has one brother; I have two brothers and no sisters. Does any of this have any determination at all on the sex of our next baby?

I really want a girl... :)

  • I would like the next to be a girl too! Simply because if it is, I'll be done. My family and my husband's family has a lot of boys this recent generation. It is funny seeing as the Y chromosome is apparently getting smaller and smaller.

  • Is it just luck of the draw or is there any science to it?

@clandestinex I will be done either way next time I think... While I can't see myself without a girl, I also can't see myself with more than two kids!

  • Lol, I do not know, but I have heard that boy sperm are faster to the egg than female.. but die faster than the female.

    Congrats to your SIL though!

  • I know its fake but LITERALLY everyone I know who has had a baby recently are exactly on when it comes to the Chinese Birth Chart. Don't know if anything is behind it but we will see! webwomb.com is a good one. Probably just fun but its been crazy how exact everyone has been!

It was right on for everyone I know having a baby recently. We joke that the only way to get a girl in DH's family is in a petridish.

  • I must admit I made my diet more acidic to try to conceive a girl my second time around. Not sure if it helped at all but I did get a girl. :-)

  • I have a sister and H has a brother. His brothers wife has 2 brothers and B&SIL have a boy and a girl, so I feel like we have a pretty even ratio so I feel like its just a crapshoot for us!

  • We've got the opposite going on here... lots of girls and only one boy so far.
  • Sex comes from the males genes, so your family percentages really have nothing to do with it.  Other then the "science" that female sperm can last longer then male sperm, but male sperm are faster, I don't know any other gender inducing tactics.

  • I know stats are 50/50 but I wonder if some uterus' (what's the plural off uterus?) are more hospitable for male or female sperm?

Orgasms contract the uterus pushing the sperm towards the egg faster.

  • I have 2 sisters each with 2 girls. My mom is 1 of 6 girls and they all have girls except my 1 aunt. Needless to say, I was shocked when they said we were having a boy!

  • It's not exactly 50/50 more boys are born every year. Also it is when you get pregnant. Statistically if the egg is lower you more likely have a boy because the y sperm are faster but if the egg is higher you have a girl because the x sperm last longer and haven't died from hitting "walls". If this makes sense.

Yes, the sex of a baby is all up to the father because all of our eggs are XX. No matter what. Saying that the father's sperm isn't 100% deciding insinuates that the eggs can be fertilized without sperm, lol.

Also, while the world sex ratio is like 1.06 male/female.. in different countries it varies so very much.. like some places are 1.40 male/female... or 0.70 male/female. Also, the egg is not in the same place to be fertilized in every woman.. so the idea of X swimming slower than Y basically goes with how high/low the egg is too.
