Sleeping with a blanket

I know LO is not supposed to have anything in her crib with her, but when she tries to self soothe during naps in the swing or elsewhere she likes to take a blanket and rub it over/against her face, and this habit has carried over into night. This makes me super nervous, because I would feel terrible if anything were to happen. I usually try and go back in after she falls asleep and take it away, but sometimes she has a death grip on it so I am running out of solutions. Anyone else have a blanket loving baby?

Re: Sleeping with a blanket

  • We let DD sleep with a little lovey blanket from Aden & Anais. It's a thin muslin with silky trim and only 12x12 inches or something like that, so not a thicky fluffy thing. She likes to hold something while she sleeps.

  • My LO always falls asleep clinging to his lovey. We have a video monitor, so I wait until he falls asleep and then go move it away from his face. I do keep it within his reach for when/if he wakes up in the MOTN so he can soothe himself back to sleep. Although sometimes this requires me to get out of bed and move it again.

  • Connor usually grabs things like the sheet or my blanket off the bed sometimes. When that happens I usually slowly pry his fingers open to get it.. or if I am feeling ballzy, I will try and snatch it away. Usually the latter is similar to me trying to snatch a dining room cloth away and breaking the glass.. and it more than likely wakes him up. A few times it has not though!

my LO falls asleep with a lovey. Its an angel deal lovey so its smaller and not super thick. I take it from her once she falls asleep but sometimes when she is fussing MON I will give it back to her and she will sleep with it all night. If they can put it on their face, they can take it off.

  • I let DD fall asleep with a full sized A&A muslin blanket. After she's asleep I move it away from her face but I leave it in the crib. It makes me SO nervous but it really helps her settle. I'm planning to have my mom cut the blanket into fourths and hem them next time we go visit so we'll have smaller loveys that she can't get tangled in. Until then I just compulsively check...
  • M has a small crocheted blanket in the pnp with him. It has holes, but I put it over him up to his waist. When we bed share, I have a thin crocheted blanket that I use and sometimes goes over him too

  • DDs is just one of those loveys with the animal on it, so it is small. I think she could take it off easily, but it just makes me nervous when she covers her face.
