Thoughts on Chloe?

Chloe is one of the names I've been thinking of.  I saw that it's higher on the top 100 list, but I don't personally know anyone with the name.....the others on the list, I can think of lots of girls with those names. I've told a few people this is one we're thinking of and haven't gotten much feedback; so, I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing....lol. If we use this name, we'd find a middle name with one syllable, and our last name starts with a C and is 2 syllables.  Is Chloe too popular? Love it, hate it?

Re: Thoughts on Chloe?

  • Love it, I only know one and she's 6
  • I like Chloe but it doesn't rock my world. I however think its a great name for someone else. Just an FYI though it does seem to be a popular pet name (cat/dog) which would not deter me, just thought you should know.

  • It was a popular name in my area about ten years ago so I know several Chloes that are that age. Its NMS but not bad.

  • I love Chloe, it's my daughter's name. We occasionally meet other Chloe's but I am a teacher and I still don't run across that many. I think it's cute on a little girl but ages well too. It is becoming more popular, so if you are concerned, some name with a similar sound/ feel are: Cleo, Clea, Zoe, Jolie
  • I do like the name, but way too popular at #11 last year for me.

  • Thanks for the input everyone!

allardr - I kinda find it funny though that Chloe is too popular for you, but your daughter is named Annabelle, which IMO is a popular name (don't get me wrong, I do think the name is cute).   :)

  • I know only one Chloe and she's two. When I was like 12 I wanted to have twins and name them Chloe and Zoe. Ha, so yeah Chloe is a nice name and I don't hear it often at all.

  • I like Chloe fine, but it doesn't thrill me. It's cute and legitimate and familiar, which are all good qualities for a name. It's too popular for me, but that doesn't mean it's too popular for you. That's dependent on what you're comfortable with.

  • I don't love the name but when I think of a little girl called Chloe it sounds cute, a teenager it sounds cool and as an adult if sounds refined.
So if u like it, it's perfect!
  • I like it but I can't picture a 50 year old woman named Chloe

  • Love it. I only know one and she's 3.5.

Last name probably fine with it. Chloe Carter, for example, sounds fine to me.

  • I use to like it but now I am just so sick of hearing it.
  • I really like Chloe. It dropped out of the top 10 this year, but when it was in the top 10 it was definitely my favourite on that list. I taught one a couple years ago and I hear it every now and then, but it's definitely not a name that feels like it's everywhere to me.

This is funny to me because for the first 13 years of my life, the only Chloe I knew was my great aunt and she was in her 80s, so when the Chloe trend started, it seemed like such an old lady name to me.

    To op:

In general, I'm indifferent.  I don't love it, but I don't hate it and there's nothing wrong with it.

When a name has seriously been in use for thousands of years, I have no trouble picturing it on a woman of any age, in any time period.

  • Kardashian is, unfortunately, the first thing that comes to mind....yuck!  Otherwise I think it would be a cute name for a little girl.
  • I think it's cute :)

  • I like Chloe but I think it's getting WAY too popular. What about Cleo? It's similar but I've never heard one
  • Very cutesy and blah to me. It's a well known, solid name though so you can't go wrong with it so long as you don't change the spelling.... I just don't personally love it.

  •  I'm going to be the dissenter. It's one of my only and most hated girl names, TBH.

I hate the way it sounds, I hate the way it looks.

I don't really know why, it's legit, spelled right, shouldn't be bad, but I just don't like it.

FWIW, I know it's popular, but I only know one and she's 5 and that's because I work in a school. Otherwise I wouldn't know a single one.

  • The only Chloe's are know are 2 dogs and 1 cat. It's NMS.

    Same.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, it's just not my style.
