Storing BM

I pumped for the first time this morning (~1 ounce)! Yaay :):) I'm so excited to start building a freezer stash for LO (5 weeks old)! My question is, after I pump do I need to put the milk in the fridge before putting in the freezer or can it go directly into the deep freezer?

  • When I first started pumping I would pump and store the milk in the fridge.  Since you have a small amount, I would suggest combining a couple of pumps before you freeze it.  A good volume for young babies is 2-3 ounces so once you have enough for one feeding.  Milk is good in the fridge for 4-5 days.  Be sure to combine the milk when they are at the same temperature.
