Where is that dang Throat Punch Thread when you need it???

So, my work week began 1 day early this week. I am a software consultant and travel just about weekly for work. Typically during the week, but sometimes, I have an early Monday meeting and have to leave Sunday night.

That's how it is this week, which sucks because it basically means I get to experience "all day" sickness for an extra night in a hotel room.

Yay Me.

ANYWAY.. the TP comes in because this is my 10th pregnancy, and I have 4 children.. so.. yah.. even though I am typically all of 110lbs "non pregnant".. apparently the moment the sperm hits the egg, my body decides to retail ALL fluids/calories that are taken in and my uterus decides to jump out and try to touch my knees.

In other words, I'm feeling incredibly bloated & fat and literally NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING fits.

I have very expensive work clothes. Tailored work clothes becuase I"m also 5'2" and if I don't tailor, I'm swimming in my suits.

So, learning a lesson from last week, I think I"m so smart to actually "TRY ON" the clothes I"m going to wear in front of clients before I pack them.

NOTHING FREAKING FITS.

LITERALLY.

It looks like I've bought everything 4 sizes too small. I have a flight in 3 hours. I am freaking out and honestly trying to figure out how I can "glam" up yoga pants. It's that bad.

about that time, my husband decides to stroll into the closet/bathroom.. sees me in hysterics.. and I wimper....

NOTHING FUCKING FITS!!! I"M SO FAT!!! NOTHING IS FITTING!!!!

and this man, who has SWORN to love me through good & bad, looks me right in the face and says....

oh.. come on! your only 8 weeks!!! It's NOT THE PREGNANCY making your clothes not fit!!!!

I swear to all that is Holy... it took every OUNCE of self restraint I have ever had to not kick him directly in the balls. Hard.

So, this is me.. sitting in a hotel room... with a suitcase of clothes that barely fit.. and I certainly will not be able to breathe in come 2pm or so.... STILL wanting to kick my "dear" hubby in the nuts for that shitty comment.

maybe I'm over reacting. maybe not. all I'm saying, is it's a good thing he's 800 miles away from me right now.

ugh!!!

Awwww. I'll feel bad for you. I had a very emotional day and really did consider kicking my h in the head. I sometimes think that the one curse to affect all women is to not feel good about yourself. And discompassionate (is that a word) husbands do not help.

I'm sorry, maybe it's because it's 7am here and I have limited patience right now, but are you complaining that you can't wear your teeny tiny expensive tailored suits because of your pregnancy?

Maybe it's just my morning mood speaking and the fact that I've been in mat and fat clothes since 9 weeks, but this thread is making me want to TP you right now.

Sorry if that sounds mean, but know your audience.

this!!!! alllllllllll of this. but will add I do want to junk punch your hubby for you

  • All I could think of is the fact that you've been through this before. Do you not have clothes you can wear from your previous pregnancies?

  • What about Bella bands or the old rubber band trick??
  • I'm considering purchasing a belly band. I have a very similar body type to what you described and I've been leaving the top button of my dress pants undone, hoping they don't fall down!

You just tie a hairband through the loop and onto the button. That way you don't have to button your pants.

  • I know how you feel. My date night attire currently consist of my old college sweats and baggy tshirts. I feel soo uncomfortable in my other clothes!

  • I just got a bella band yesterday because I've been super uncomfortable in my work clothes the last few weeks.  I HATE maternity dress clothes so much, not to mention they are freakin' expensive for about 6 months worth of wear.  I'm hoping it does the trick.  Most of my dress pants don't have a button, they have the claspy thing so the rubber band trick doesn't work there.

  • OP, I totally feel your pain.  I've got a week long work trip in a couple weeks and trying to figure out a way to avoid the need to go buy all new clothes.  Nothing I have in my closet looks at all flattering and in fact my bloated fat gut just hangs over all of my pants - even with the rubber band trick that is a major fail.  Your husband's comment - totally not cool.  I think I would have thrown a shoe at him!  I hope your trip this week goes well and you are able to make the most out of the situation.  Drink plenty of water and keep your mints handy to help you get through those meetings without puking.

@cnk459 That blows. It sounds like you work in a very traditional business environment, dress-wise, so I'm guessing the DVF wrap dress route wouldn't work? Suits only? I don't really have any useful suggestions, since that's practically all I travel with pregnant or not, but I can offer commiseration. I don't know why everyone else is so butthurt about you stressing over not being able to fit into any of your work clothes. Some people work in an environment (i.e. consulting) where it's harder to just pop down to H&M and buy some cheapo, throw away work clothes to wear for a few months. And I would punch my husband in the weenie for the above implication.

ETA I'm not knocking H&M. I have quite a few things from there. But I don't wear them for presentations to our exec board and I wouldn't wear them to a consulting gig with high-dollar clients.

yes. this is my issue exactly. I have extremely stringent dress code requirements, so, that's why I have to be very particular about what I wear. I was not bragging about the cost or size of my clothing, just trying to indicate that unfortunatly, I don't have a lot of "other" options availabe to me.. I can't just switch to a larger dress, etc or generally speaking, easily pick up something "off the rack" that will fit/be appropriate.

yes, I've been through this before, but after my last loss, and due to my age (I'm now 39), I kinda went BSC with the whole "it's never gonna happen" thinking .. and I purged my closet/house of anything pg related. Including the 2 maternity suits I had.

Anyway, I just packed the "least horrible" outfit and will make the best of it.

I really just wanted to bitch about my husband because I was so annoyed by his statement. :) It's gonna be a while before he lives that one down with me.

(and, don't worry... I get the first couple of responses.. it was a whiney, bitchy rant-type post, so I probably deserved a little bit of that).

  • I know how you are feeling! i had a bit of a melt down last week when i tried on a bunch of my work pants and only ONE pair fit. luckily my husband is smart enough to say either "you look fine!" or "this is supposed to happen! you're pregnant!"

if he said what your husband said he'd likely be getting a clothes hanger removed from his ass.

  • Target has the Bella band (or a similar thing). I know some people hate them but I wore work pants all the way unzipped when I got bigger with the band and a longer or flowy shirt. You can wear it folded in half in the beginning. I would try that! They at least work until your thighs and ass get huge too ;)
  • I would want to TP your husband too! His comment wasn't helpful. I threw my slipper at my DH on Friday for a similar reaction/comment.

  • I understand the situation you are in OP. Being in a slightly different category (plus size), my option are extremely limited as well. I recently just changed jobs and now have a much more strict dress code in which suits and stiff collared blouses are now my work attire. It sucks because not only am I searching for plus size suits (hard to come by for us) but also looking for pregnancy-wear. Prior to this job change, I could wear flowy blouses and just about anything comfortable, so long as it was fashionable and professional.

I am sorry YH was such an ass. Mine sometimes needs to re-evaluate his sensitivity chip before speaking as well.
