Always the last one?

Any other moms out there feel like their LO is the last one on these boards to do anything?  The latest post on talking had me saying "Goodness we are talking now?"  I have also read tons of posts regarding cruising and eating finger foods.  We are still not crawling, not sleeping through the night, only eating purees and not talking, with the exception of Mama.  Anyone else the last one to the party every month?

Re: Always the last one?

  • Everything you listed on here, my DS does not do consistently at all. And he is probably one of the oldest babies on the board, born Jan. 30th. He crawls, but reverts back to army crawling more than not. He slept through the night for a three week stint, and has now been back to one or two night wakings for over a month. So I view the STTN as the phase, and the wakings as normal. He has finger foods, but rarely gets it into his mouth. Most of it ends up in the seat of the high chair. He does babble, but that is new as of maybe a week ago.  His cousin is four weeks younger than he is and is doing or has been doing everything listed well before him. I try not to get hung up about it, because eventually I know he will do it. That, and whenever I feel like "Oh, jeez! He better start doing that soon!" I rue the day I said it because it's something that ends up making my life more complicated lol.

  • Yes, I feel the same way. DD doesn't even sit unassisted for long periods of time yet! I know she CAN sit up on her own, because I've seen her do it, but I can't trust her to do it consistently. She sort of army crawls/scoots/inch-worms her way around, but she is not even close to pulling up or "cruising" around. She eats all purées with the exception of some Cheerios and Gerber puffs. And her babbling is very limited- within the past week or so she has started making a few consonant sounds, but the vast majority of her noises are "aaaahh" squeals and yells. She is also one of the oldest babies here, born January 31.

  • Well, apart from the talking (which at this point consists of a grand total of four words) my DD hasn't been doing much of the other stuff on that list! She only STTN sporadically. She started standing supported early, but is only just starting to TRY to crawl. And until today when we gave her a couple of strips of toast to try, she's been on all purees.

I figure all babies do things on their own time. Some kids start saying individual words early, other kids barely talk and then start busting out complete sentences way early. Some kids don't crawl for a long time, then skip straight to walking. Unless the pediatrician expresses concern about developmental delays, I wouldn't stress!

  • Don't feel bad! My dd was late for a lot of things too. I'm actually sad that e IS cruising and speed crawling! I am DSO not ready for mobile baby yet, lol!

  • Nope not alone. Mine is an older one for the board too (Jan 29th). She army draws, only eats purees, NOT even close to STTN.....and has apparently said "dada", but only DH heard it. Seriously think he just imagined it

  • No crawling, STTN, cruising, or talking over here. He babbles but no actual words. He gets finger foods but just because we are doing baby-led weaning and skipped purees all together.

Bottom line, don't worry about it. Every child develops at their own pace. Development is a journey not a race. Enjoy the immobile, non-verbal stage!
  • As I've said often enough on here - we are nowhere near STTN. She's babbling but no words (not even mama), and just this week started to kind of army crawl. She likes it when we have her "stand" but is nowhere close to pulling up by herself. The only thing on your list that DD2 does is eat finger foods, mostly because I have thrown sticks of stuff (carrots, cucumbers, etc) on her tray since she was 6 months old to distract her while I tried to feed myself and DD1.

In other words - don't worry. People tend to post when their babies hit milestones, and not when nothing happens. Those would be pretty boring posts. ;)

    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • Yep.. DS isn't crawling, rolling, cruising or mobile at all. He isn't saying any words or making a lot of consonant sounds. He hasn't really started to imitate yet. Meh. I'm hoping mobility will ease some of his fussiness but I've learned I need to stop waiting for that. Oh and he has been waking up every two hours at night. Lame.

  • Sorry, but when I saw this thread, all I could think of was this article I came across a while ago. It made me laugh, as well was come to some self actualization as a mother. Especially after watching a lot of friends younger babies hitting milestones before my own. Enjoy! https://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-vienna/latest-parenting-trend-ctfd-method_b_3588031.html
