I haven't, although I really can't imagine why a hospital would ban them (other than liability of course). They have to be prepared for all scenarios in the case of a FTM, so what could possibly happen with a VBAC that would be different? I understand the risks are different with a FTM, but they have to be prepared for emergencies if they deliver babies..
How does your provider feel about a VBAC? This might be the more important question.
If the hospitals in my area banned them I would labor at home as long as possible before going in and go for a VBAC. I wouldn't consent to anything, especially a c-section, as long as everything is okay. The only thing my hospital really mandates for VBACers is continuous monitoring. As long as that shows everything is okay, I'm good.
You may look into joining the VBAC facts group on facebook and asking this. I'm positive the ladies on there will have experience with this and can help you!
Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that! Also, very sorry for mamas who go in there and need an emergency c/s. I would hate to have to relocate from DH for a while, but if it was the only possible way of getting a VBAC, I think I would. Have you thought about getting a doula if that is the route you go in case your H can't make it in time? Or could your sister be with you for support?
Sorry about your mom also! A lot of us have those people in our lives who think we're crazy or doing something dangerous. For most of them I just shrug off what they say because I know it's truly coming from a place of ignorance. All they know is what they hear through the grapevine and aren't at all educated about the real statistics and how more danger actually lies in having a RCS, statistically speaking. DH was clueless, but supportive, so I made him watch the VBAC episode of More Business of Being Born (on netflix) and printed off a lot of info from vbacfacts.com. I want him to be as informed as I am in the case of an OB trying to scare us into something. If your mom would be receptive to it, if it even matters to you, maybe you could get her to watch the video (only 50 minutes) or read a little about it. Looking at the numbers might make her more supportive and less fearful for you. Just a thought.
I hope it works out for you whatever way you decide to go & hope you can VBAC like you want!
Have you tried contacting your local ICAN group to see if they can be of any help? Would you consider a home birth? You could have prenatal care with your doctor, and try to find a HB midwife who could attend your birth.
Sorry you are so limited in options, it's not fair to you for the hospital to have that ban in place just for VBAC, but not for any other women. Ugh.
Yikes! Do you have a birthing center near with a midwife? I would probably go stay with your sister towards the end. Labor generally isn't quick and more than likely, your DH will make it. You don't want to be in labor in an ambulance for a 5 hr drive!! I had a very successful vbac and I encourage you to try. The nice recovery alone would be worth the staying with a relative! Then afterwards, you should be a catalyst of change in your local hospital! Good luck Mama!
I know a HB MW who travels, seriously IM me if you want her info. She has VBAC experience, and is based out of Oregon or Alaska, and has experience working remotely. She'll come to you!
Honestly, I think VBAC is worth it. At any rate, if you were to have a VBAC and then go on and have a third baby, the hospital would have less of an argument for not letting you VBAC there, since you would have a "proven pelvis" at that point.
@Wildflower26 How are you doing with this? I hate your situation, but I still have FX that you'll have a great birth, a healthy LO, and be able to stick to your plan! If it is of any comfort, I've been interviewing doulas and had several recommend that my fear of traveling to a birth center (and delivering in the car) was overblown. I know you said the roads would be bad to drive to the hospital two hours away, but if that's a comfortable facility for you, is it possible you could hire a doula and travel with her when your labor starts? I am fairly cavalier with driving in bad weather just due to the necessity of it when I was growing up, and I know nothing about your vehicle or your particular roads, but wanted to throw that out there.
I'm convinced that TheBump is having a posthumous feud with Steve Jobs and you can't post siggys from Macs.
