Does anyone else have a climber?

Kate has just figured out how to climb onto the window seat of our bay window, the couch, and now she is standing on the tail fins and handle bars of her Retro Rocket riding toy. It's added a whole new level of exhaustion and worry (for me) to her already rambunctious play. I really can't take my eyes off of her for a second. The window seat is too large to block off, and she wants to climb up there ALL DAY and wave to people and dogs she sees walking on the sidewalk out front. I can't wait to move, the new house has no window seat.

Re: Does anyone else have a climber?

  • DD is a big time climber. Anything and everything that she can get on top of to climb, she does. I posted about worrying about hee climbing out of the crib next but luckily she hasn't done that yet. Our open layout literally leaves no walls for our couch to be up against so we are literally around her all day. I can't leave her alone anymore. She also thinks it is hilarious when she sees me getting frustrated. Ahhh!!! DSS was never like this. We never had to worry about climbing or putting locks on cabinets, keeping the dog food away, etc. He just kept to himself.

  • I just caught LO climbing his fire truck to try and get on the tv stand. I thought I had a few more months until this! I am glad I am not the only one.
  • Yep, this started this weekend.  He has a little John Deere tractor that he is trying to stand on - next to the baby gate.  Seriously child?

  • Mine is just obsessed with stairs. He wants to climb up and down those all day. When I take him away because mommy is tired he cries. I hope he doesn't realize he can climb other things.
  • Ds has simmered down quite a bit when it comes to climbing. A couple months ago he was climbing everything. ..he would climb from the floor onto the couch and then up on top of the back part of the couch and hold on to the wall and cruise along it. He would also put his hands on top of the rail of his crib (which is also a convertible sleigh style crib) and walk his feet up the side of it. I haven't seen him do much climbing recently though.
  • DD started to climb on her music table so we put it away. We have relocated other "climbable" items, too. We try to take her to the park a lot to fulfill her need to climb. Her daycare has a toddler size jungle gym with slide that REALLY wears her out!
  • Yep, he climbs onto anything and everything. When I know that he won't get too too hurt, I let him fall. That is the only way he is going to learn.

  • Climber here.  He'll climb up onto our outdoor furniture, climb down, and right back up again.

He likes the t.v. stand, ottoman, rock wall on our patio, patio furniture, console table..etc.  You take him to the park though and he stares at the other kids and plays in the mulch.  Go figure.
  • DS2 is a climber and it's escalated by the fact that he LOVES to copy DS1 who just seems to be discovering all the crazy things he can do!

  • DS doesn't walk on his own yet but climbs on everything.  Today he climbed onto the couch to reach the cat.  Poor cat was just trying to sleep.

  • ohhh yes- we have this stair step bookcase (that THANKFULLY we bolted to the wall) she loves to climb on the first step of it and dance. I pull her off it 2740683 times a day I feel like.

The stairs are blocked off during the day- but when we go to bed I will take the gate down and let her hold my hand and climb up the steps- she loves it. She would do it all day.
  • The things they can get into now, haha! I love all these stories.
Aidan likes to open the drawer to our media center, take the video games/DVDs out, and climb into the drawer.
