Speaking of food...

DS had sushi the other night. This is fine, right? In my head I know it is....it was only a few bites, and not high mercury fish, I probably have eaten sushi twice a month for the past ten years and gave never gotten sick. But the lady I work with, who is usually impressed by all the stuff DS eats, told me that was "going too far" with the diverse food stuff. Like I was giving him a martini or something. What say you? Sushi is fine, right?

Re: Speaking of food...

  • We haven't given DD raw fish yet. I am not sure when we will but it will be soon. I may ask her pedi next month. We eat a lot of sushi but get her veggie rolls and such. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just make sure it's from a reputable place And low mercury fish. Glad he liked it!

  • Yeah, it wasn't from a gas station, lol, it was from a nicer place in town that is packed every night of the week. I take her comments with a grain of salt, she has never even tried sushi.

  • Ha ha, gas station sushi! Yummy! EEK! I ignore such stupid comments, especially if they don't eat it themselves. People are so weird about sushi, but I prefer my fish raw :)

  • I gave Amir sushi without hubs knowing because he was acting crazy about it too. As long as you feel he can handle it I don't see the problem. Plus most sushi is actually sashimi.

I'm assuming he didn't explode since you're telling us about it? We haven't tried sushi yet but not for any reason.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • No, he tore it up! I just thought it was so funny that she said I was "going too far", LOL. I guess this is what happens when you live in a small city with an old school mentality. I was also accused one of "trying to be cool" because I didn't circumcise. (Did I spell that right, it looks funny)

How is not circumcising trying to be cool? Anyway....I'm glad he liked it :-)

  • Yeah, our sushi restaurant is hoppin'. Which is actually pretty surprising. We had only given him veggie rolls until now, but I figured he was old enough now. @lady_tyah, I know, right! The guy that said it is a friend, but not the type to put any thought into doing things differently from the way they have always been done, no matter what the reason. It's odd, my group of friends are usually pretty progressive, but for some reason some of them are adamantly against not circing. One of them acts like I am actively injecting my kid with HIV. DH and I actually kept pretty quiet about it (because why should other people care?), but they starting talking at out it at a gathering when we weren't there and they all got all fired up about it. Okay, I'm rambling, but it still irks me.

  • Really, a town gathering over a kid having sushi. They going to much. I'd be irked too. Don't let it but you though. Obviously their lives are just that boring.

  • Lol, no, they got fired up over me not circing, not the sushi

  • That's even worse! Are no kids genitals private?

  • @lady_tytah makes me laugh! You should rename this thread "sushi and genitalia". Haha!

    Sushi, genitalia and YOU.

It sounds like a self help book. :)

My sister calls Howell's penis an anteater because we didn't circ.

  • Most sushi isn't really raw seafood anyway. As long as it's from a reputable place it's fine.
  • This thread is hilarious.

I know nothing about sushi but I do know that peens are a "none of your business" sort of topic. Sorry you have to deal with people like that!
  • I know, right? I really wasn't expecting much of a reaction from these people, especially when my mom didn't even bat an eye, and she is pretty conservative. This town is odd, it is big, but split between people in poverty and a very close knit, sheltered, working/middle class who have never left the city. People don't move here, you move away from here. So, my treating my baby like a person and not like a foreign creature is kind of seen as "big city" "trying to be cool", "trying to be European", etc. Its kind of funny, most of the things I do parenting wise are more old old school than anything else. Even breast feeding and making my own baby food were seen as being "trendy". I was like, "what do you people think babies ate before the 50's!!!" Lol, actually, most people in my life are fine, there are just a vocal few that think I am nuts
