November 2012 Moms

Sttn

It has been almost a year. LO slept 5 hours through for about a month between 3 and 4 months. Otherwise, she has done this maybe 5 or 6 times. She has either had reflux, ear infections, been teething or had a uti much of the year. Now she has a helmet. There have been reasons to get up every 2 hours or less, I guess.

I'm beginning to suspect though, that she is the last of the sleepless babies. She has started to wake up, reach for comfort and then try to crawl into our bed (we are still in a tiny apt), which my gut tells me is a bad sign, sleep habit-wise. Thoughts? Anyone else sleepless right now?

Re: Sttn

  • D still eats several times a night. We bed share now. I just could not take the constant getting up and he would be so riled up by the time I got to him and got him positioned to eat that it would take forever to get him back to sleep.

Sorry you guys are having sleep issues. They are the worst in my opinion.

  • I'm still up at minimum once MOTN, but occasionally two or three times.

    It's rare I get to sleep all.night.long.

I'd love to sleep all night, every night for at least a while before the next LO comes.

    Good luck.
  • Still up around 4 every night to nurse. I don't mind though. Keeps my supply up.

  • I'm still up at least once MOTN, but lately it's been 3-4 times.  Both boys are getting over croup, so it's been rough around here.  I tell DH once his program is over and he's able to help in the middle of the night, I'm going to a hotel alone and will sleep the whole time.

  • I'm sorry you're having sleepless nights. It sounds rough but I'm sure things will turn around eventually. It just may require some sleep training.

I met a very nice woman at the park today . She had an eight week old son. She said he is sleeping twelve hours a night with one dream feed. I said SAY WHAT now? She said she sleep trains babies (is that a job?). Anyway she claimed he got enough milk during the day (nurses) and when he cries she pats him on the back but has taught him that cry does not equal rescue . She even let me hold him, saying its good to share positive energy. She kind of had the look of a free spirit and was so sweet . I said I wish I met u a year ago ? lol . But I sleep trained at six months and M now sleeps from 7 to 6. Once in a while she wakes up and needs four oz to go back to sleep. . We were in a VERY small apt until M was five months. Her crib was right by my head . I feel your pain!!!

Um, that's horrific to me. 8 weeks is waaaay too young to sleep train.

  • Yeah I didn't think u were supposed to before three months. I don't know how she knows he gets enough. Who the hell knows.
  • There's definitely no consistency in my house.  M has slept through the night plenty of times, but there are still MANY times in which she's up a lot.  The last two weeks have been extremely rough (teeth # 7 and 8 came in).  I hope that things get better for you!!

  • ^ I sort of hear you @amberea14 but at the same time she wasn't doing CIO in the sense that most people do. Sounds like she was still providing physical comfort while reading his cues. DS sttn without needing a feeding at 8 weeks regularly (still wakes for one reason or another sometimes)

Dude!!! How did u do it sister! I remember at almost six months I was just DONE and I thought ok, tonight she is not getting fed. It's just a habit at this point. Like i used to get up in the MOTN and eat a banana so my body got used to it. It was so annoying ! Thankfully M just stopped wanted to be fed so I didn't have to hear her cry because I'm sure I would have caved just to get her back to sleep! And yes that lady said she doesn't ignore him just comforts him and doesn't pick him up every time. All I know is both mother and son seemed happy and rested!
  • @uconnhuskie007 my four year old niece does that too. The last time I slept at my sisters she cried for her in the MOTN and since I had borrowed the monitor my sister didn't hear her and I felt bad waking her so I crawled into bed with her. So she says I want mama . I said mamas sleeping I'm here. And we cuddled . But that would get old every night . Like baby 411 says an interrupted night of sleep is a concept known only to childless people
  • @uconnhuskie007 I still disagree with what she is doing. It's completely different if the baby STTN on its own.

@shella923 here is a study that just came out on why it's bad to sleep train a young baby. Obviously, form your own opinion. I don't agree with sleep training a young baby. I did a very gentle sleep training at 6 months but even now I still feed her once in the MOTN.
