White noise machine?

My hubby and I went to babies r us today and bought the graco sweet slumber sound machine. We got home only to find out it doesn't work properly, won't turn off or switch to different songs. I am planning on returning it tomorrow. Does anyone recommend a diff one? Or just an app on my phone?

I personally didn't like the sleep sheep because it shut off after 45 min. DD would without fail always wake up. We do have a sheep and a giraffe and they are fine for in the car or if we are out running around but I prefer an actual sound machine. We have this one:

We love it. It has clock so you keep track of how long LO has been BFing and it has tons of sounds.

We have the marpac sleep mate in each of our boys' rooms and it works out well - no problems and our oldest is 4 and a half!

Anyone use an app on their iphone? Would save so much!

I used it religiously for the first three weeks of DD's life. The app in the iPhone has been amazing!
I use the one called Relax melodies. She loves it!

I got a cheapie one by homedics at target when ds1 was born almost five years ago...the light doesn't work anymore but the sound machine works like a charm! It has running water, white noise, ocean, rain, and heartbeat. We use it every night and for ds2 naps every.single.day. It was like $20 some bucks! Plugs into wall-no batteries! Highly recommend!

Yep, this! We just had the "white noise" app and used it a lot at first but then not at all, so it was a good way for us to do a trial run without buying another baby item.

We have the Sleep Sheep, but I think its only good for traveling around town or something. It shuts off after 45 minutes, which is right when a lot of babies are coming out of a sleep cycle anyways, and both DD's would wake up. I found it very frustrating.

We use the Graco White Noise Machine--I like it because it has a built-in nightlight. We take it whenever we travel, so we never have to worry about a too-dark room, and the noise provides consistency with their home environment. We use it every night--my kids aren't reliant on it to cover noise anymore, but it sets the mood and tells them its time to sleep.

I probably wouldn't use the app on a phone, because you would have to have the phone on, in their room, all night (if you want it going all night)--if you want to make a phone call, or have a low battery, you would have to go in and disturb them. Just a thought.

I'm sorry the graco one didn't work out for you! We've used ours for 2 years and will use it for new baby. We're buying a light projector sound machine for DD1's room. We used the travel sleep sheep for car rides, but that auto shut off was a bummer for us.

We are waiting to see what kind of sleeper baby girl is. If she needs white noise I will probably just download some and use my old Ipod with some speakers.

I second this. I use it in my own room and absolutely love it. DD has this one https://www.amazon.com/HoMedics-SS-2000G-Relaxation-Machine-Nature/dp/B00A2JBMRE but just because it was a gift. It isn't bad, but I definitely don't like it as much as my marpac. The worst part about it is that if the power shuts off briefly, it turns back on with this weird chirping sound that wakes her up instantly. Someone gave us this one for DS: https://www.amazon.com/myBaby-Soundspa-Lullaby-Machine-Projector/dp/B008KG5R6I/ but I can't really comment much on it since we haven't used it yet.

We have the second one that you listed, swimiz. We got it when DS was born and he still uses it every night.

@ashley- that's the same one I have. Can shut off after 15,30,or 45 min or can stay on until you turn it off. It plugs in. Totally worth it!

This what DH wants. We passed it today at BRU and he was like "We're getting this next time we get paid but I want the bigger one." It's like the only thing he's really been super into, he's mentioned it before too. He also demanded and got really excited about picking out the changing mat cover... lol

When I was a nanny, a couple families had the sleep machine from Brookstone which was amazing because it had lots of sound choices and the volume was adjustable. It's pricey though- close to $100 I think. I ended up getting the marpac dohm from BuyBuy Baby. It has a nice white noise sound, but the down side is that the volume only has 2 settings. I wish it would get a little louder since we have a small house and LO will hear every single noise.

If money were no issue I would totally go with the Brookstone one!
