Incredibly sad (child death mentioned)-updated

A family member of my SIL's lost her two year old daughter today. On Tuesday she fell down a flight of stairs and sustained a massive head injury. Today she passed away. I'm saddened and at a loss for words.

I was just telling DH earlier this evening about how she'd fallen (not knowing she'd passed), when Ethan decided to knock over the baby gate and climb the stairs by himself.

I'm buying a new gate tomorrow and hugging my baby a little tighter this evening.

ETA: The little girl was taken off life support this morning because she was brain dead. I'm so saddened over this. Here's what I've found out. Apparently the little girl was being watched by her grandmothers boyfriend. He said he went to take a shower and she fell while he was in the shower... This is crazy. He just left her unattended while using the shower?! Also, they discovered she'd had another head injury within the 48 hours before the fall, so now it's being treated like a crime scene and he is the primary suspect. Worst part? The mom already lost a baby once. She was 7 months pregnant and delivered early and the baby didn't make it. I'm just horrified at the whole situation.

Sorry to hear of their loss. The paranoid mother in me wants to know if it was just a freak fall? We have steps and Lexie is great at going up but not great at coming down. We are trying to teach her that we need to be with her when going up but it still makes me nervous.

@ktnicole, from what I understand, yes, it was a freak accident. I don't know a lot of details about it, though.

So sad in any situation. I really fight myself over steps. I grew up with them and knew how to go up and down from a young age, my nephew as well. Lexie tries to grab the railing. Where's the bubble wrap

Yeah, no kidding.

Personally, I don't want E practicing stairs just yet, but Daddy decided to introduce them So, now he's obsessed with them.

I'm am so sorry for your loss. I can't not imagine the amount of grief they are feeling right now. It makes me very grateful that we live in an apartment without stairs, but that will change once we get a house. I will pray for you and your family.
