anyone's LO start refusing to nurse?

My LO has refused to BF the last 3 days.  It started when she started biting and I would take her off, now she doesn't even try anymore.  She will take pumped milk in a bottle, but I'd rather not start exclusively pumping.  Anyone have this problem?  Do you know the likely causes?  Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Re: anyone's LO start refusing to nurse?

  • No help here.
LO would nurse a dozen times a day if I let him.
My problem is that he won't drink milk (breast, or whole) at all from a bottle or cup.
He will eat solids and drink water while I'm gone.

Well, actually, DD stopped around 10-11 months, but she already had most teeth, so wasn't biting because of that.
She would only bite if I tried to nurse when she wanted a cup.

I pumped for a month then quit.

  • Sorry, but I'm no help either.  DD has moments where she's distracted when nursing, but generally she'll nurse for 10 minutes total.  I will tell you that I've started introducing WCM (low supply due to being pregnant) and she's been fine with that.

I would keep trying if I were you.  It could just be a nursing strike.

  • my LO has been refusing day time feedings- particularly when we were traveling last week.  Part of it was he was too interested in his surroundings.  A couple of times I had to take him into a bathroom and turn off the light (only place it was totally dark) for him to focus.  That only worked moderately- he's definitely getting less interested as we go on...

  • I'm sure it's just a phase. Sounds like how O acts when she is about to cut a tooth.

Samesies. Although H had an ear infection during his longest strike - and had no other symptoms.

J has refused to nurse since last Sunday (so almost 2 weeks). I have given up trying and am just pumping (though not during the day while at work-- he's getting somewhere between 50 and 75% BM). I think it's because of how I reacted when he bit me but who knows. I doubt it's an ear infection b/c he's totally his normal self otherwise. :( I hate pumping and this whole situation has made me more upset than I would have expected, though I'm getting over it.

I'm sorry. :( I took it really hard when H was on strike. Big hugs to you!

  • @beane4018 I feel ya!  I'm all sad over her strike (it is going on 6 days now, so I'm losing hope), but I did make H do her MOTN and morning feedings over the weekend, and it was nice to sleep in a little for the first time in forever.
