Reaction to solids

Anyone's LOs have an allergic reaction to solid foods yet? What does it look like? DD has a little rash on her cheeks and I think it might be a reaction to her food. Can babies be allergic to avocado? It's that or her oatmeal. The rash is just little red bumps on both cheeks. Thoughts?

It might be or it might be due to teething or the change in acidity (even though avocados are not that acidic, but more so than oatmeal). Perhaps stop for a few days and see if that helps?

Connor had bumps on his chin from sharing a peach with me, it lasted two days. Oh and he ate peaches from a jar with no reaction, probably cause hardly any was on his skin.

  • My DS had a similar reaction after trying oatmeal. He ended up with a bumpy, red rash on his cheeks, belly, and shoulders. It looked more like contact dermitis than hives and he was slobbering a lot that day. So I'm not sure if it was a reaction to the oatmeal or not.

We just quit giving him oatmeal. My pedi told me we could try to reintroduce it after a couple of weeks. I'm hesitant though. My DD has a peanut allergy, and I'm irrationally afraid of food allergies because of it.

  • My LO has a rash on her cheeks and our pedi and daycare provider said there is a virus going around that gives them a rash, just another option of what could be causing it!

  • Any dairy yet? That's a common allergen.

I work in a K-12 school and I can tell on the little kids' faces when they have an allergy to something they have eaten (at least from the signs I have learned). It's sad! :(

No dairy. She did manage to smear the food all over her face as well. She is only happy if she is spoon feeding herself and it can get messy. We are working on it. I meant to start with rice cereal, but grabbed the wrong container (I had both at home). I will stop both the oatmeal and avocado and see what happens. @cmcmillan0901 did they say there was anything you could do for the virus? How do you know if it is the virus? (Because you are a doctor and have all the answers, right?)

  • Thanks @cmcmillan0901 I called daycare and she said all the LOs who were sick got the rash. I am happy to know it wasn't a food sensitivity. Thank you for the suggestion!

You're welcome @none5 ! Also, my pedi told me the rash usually means the virus is on its way out so good news for both our LOs, yay!!
