Pacifier Poll

Just curious about how many moms out there are still using pacifiers for their babies in this age range. We don't use them much during the day anymore, but still rely on them to help soothe night wakings. How about you?

We use it mainly to soothe him to sleep. And on the rare occasion that he is so upset that nothing else works to soothe him, we'll use it.

Our DD is 8 months old and she still uses it. Not all the time but when she needs it. She actually puts it in herself. I have no intentions on taking it away from her yet either.

My LO is 7.5 months and doesn't really use one anymore. Not to sooth herself anyway. She chews the crap out of it so I give it to her sometimes when we are out in town but she doesn't use it to get to sleep at all.

I lucked out with this LO. DD#2 doesn't know what a pacifier is. We still have them around but I can't remember the last time she used one. If she picks one up she will turn it around in her hands to try to figure it out.

DD#1 was hooked for nighttime and naps. We took her paci away right after her 2nd birthday - we went cold turkey. Nighttime was fine - but her naps disappeared.

My guy never had any interest in a pacifier. He was given one in the NICU, but he never took to it. He much prefers his fingers. Or my fingers. Or his books. Or the dog. Or the....)

This exactly! Only for naps and nighttime, but we still don't leave the house without it JUST in case.

Almost identical to pinkie's answer. DD never took one. Hated that at the time, but now I don't have to go through weaning her from it. I never had an age range for taking it away though.

DD just turned 9 months. She uses a pacifier when she's sleeping in her crib, and I also give her one in the car when she's tired.

At six months, DS always has a paci around, but rarely puts it in his mouth. He just likes to have them around I guess. He's more than able to put the paci in his mouth by himself, but he mostly just plays with it / the holder.

He still needs it at night. For an hour at the most.

We'll be weaning by 12 months.

We were only using it for sleeping but he's been chewing on everything... And I mean EVERYTHING and has been getting very cranky with this teething process. So we started giving it to him more often to save our own sanity lol. I wanna start getting him back to only using it at night soon though before he becomes too attached.i just gotta buy some more teething rings.

This is us too. DS is just a fussy kid and I don't mind using one to calm him down when needed but I usually try other methods first.

Yes he is actually using it more now than he used to. Try to limit it to going to sleep and major meltdowns.

LO only uses it in the carseat if shes tired and needs to sleep but is fighting it. Or if we are out and I'm trying to rock her to sleep. I don't rock her to sleep at home so I don't use the binky.

My daughter never really liked them either. I would try giving them to her when she would go to sleep or if she was really fussy but she always spit them out.

J used to take one when he was tiny, but mostly just when he was really tired. He hasn't taken one at all since he was about 3 months.

We still use it a lot. She is absolutely dependent on it to fall asleep at naps and bedtime. I try to limit it during the day for when she gets upset because it definitely helps calm her down. Sometimes she'll find it herself when she's playing and put it in her mouth though. I'm not worried about it at this point; when she gets older and can understand more we will work on taking it away.

My daughter will be 8 months on Tuesday. I still use it. When she wants it she will put it in her mouth herself. She doesn't have to have it constantly so I am not worried about taking it away at this point.

LO needed it when he was younger but would spit it out because it would put him to sleep if he took it (he is a sleep fighter). Now he will freely take it but only if he's sleepy or his gums are hurting him. His bottom 2 teeth are working on coming in.
