New and clueless!

Hi! So, im a mommy of one beautiful little girl who turns 2 this month. A few weeks ago we found out we were pregnant again. Today we found out its twins! I am so excited but I am clueless!!! I know nothing about twins from how to determine if theyre identical or not or what to expect during pregnancy or even if theres anything I should do differently with a twin pregnancy! So I guess Im just looking for some info and advice!! :) also, theyre both measuring 5 wks 6 days and we seen a yolk sac in one.. Is this normal?

  • Please read through the F&Q posts that are at the top of the board. That's a good place to start. Welcome and good luck.

  • congratulations!  you'll want to ask your doctor if they are di/di, mono/di, or mono/mono to make sure you have the correct prenatal care.  di/di are the most common and are in 2 different gestational sacs.  If you saw 2 round blobs, that's probably what you have.  good luck!

  • Congrats! I was clueless too when I found out we were having twins. It's very possible that you will not be able to tell if they are identical without a DNA test after birth. Start with figuring out if they are mo/di (always identical), mo/mo (identical), or di/di (identical or fraternal). I googled for days after we found out- it can be very confusing!

  • Thanks! I did in fact see two sacs so i know theyre not sharing one! I am very excited and Im trying not to think about how we are going to afford 2 apposed to 1 newborn, space, or most of all being one mom with two hands needing more when the hubbys working and no ones around! Lol I know everything will work out so it will just be a learn as I go thing but all advice and info will never be turned down! :) thanks everyone!
  • Congrats!  If you know for sure there are 2 sacs then they are di/di, which means they're most likely fraternal.  But there IS about a 10% chance of di/di twins being identical.

You will figure out how to handle 2 babies at once.  It's hard at first, but it gets better.  The first year is definitely a challenge, but it's so worth it.  The first time they hold (or even touch) hands you'll forget all about it.  :x
