PW: Dried beans

Last question.  I told y'all I'm going psycho...

Can somebody PLEASE tell me how to cook dried beans.  I soak them overnight and cook them for a long time, but nothing works.  Help!

Re: PW: Dried beans

  • I knew a lot of people cook them in the crock pot. With a whole onion and some garlic cloves for flavor. Honestly I hate home made beans. I prefer canned. Homemade never tastes right to me.

  • I've done the slow cooker once, but I did the fast soak with those.  I may try it again this week, but after doing the long soak.

  • We soak them overnight.  My MIL uses a pressure cooker to cook them.  They taste much better and take less time to cook.  I don't have a pressure cooker so I usually boil mine for a long time.  I may give the crock pot a try.
  • @mightybee The line at the bottom made me tear up.  I think I'm stealing that line.

Thanks, y'all (try not to read that in an accent. ha)

I was simmering beans on the stove this morning when I read this! I soaked them and simmered them a couple of days ago and put them in the fridge and when I went to mix up filling for our dinner tonight- sweet potato and black bean burritos- they were still crunchy! So they are simmering once again. I'm not very experienced with dried beans, I didn't even eat beans until a few years ago. I was afraid I was doing it totally wrong. I guess they just take forever.
Thanks for the recipe sheet @mightybee I will be using that in the future for sure!
