My ds is in nursery school right now at 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. He still naps fairly regularly and he will be 4 in January. Re- registration for his school is in one month and the pre- k program is the same time frame. I feel like he is somewhat advanced- he can read at least 50 words, knows the days of the week, months of the year, colors, numbers, etc. and he is the oldest according to the cut offs in my area. I don't necessarily think he needs a full day 8:30-2:30, especially if he is still napping but it's so early in the year, I can't predict a year from now what he will like/need. I am torn. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Re: Full day pre-k
DS has never been a full day daycare kid, so I was worried about kindergarten for next year. Since he started afternoon PreK, I've been putting him in the morning daycare program at the same school, usually not until 10am or so, and leave him there until about 4pm. (I do work 10-6 or 3-11 about three weekdays a week, someone else picks him up some days) Even though only part of the day is a "school" structure, I really think it will help when he HAS to go to school full days next year.
