NWMR: Vacation Question

A vendor offered DH a free January trip to a warm location. Although I am worried about leaving the kids and traveling, I think this trip would be awesome and I totally want to go. We hardly ever manage a date night, much less an actual vacation. Would you leave a 1, 3, and 5 year old for a week if you could get family to cover? Or do you think that's too many kids/too young to leave for that long?

  • This is a "you know your family" thing. It would be hard to leave just my one kid for a week due to coverage. But if you have the support to leave 3, then you have the support.

  • If your family can handle it - yes. We left a then 4 year old and 1 year old with my mother and father (who came and stayed in our house) for 4 days when DH joined me at a conference I was attending.

  • If you have the coverage and they are willing, GO GO GO! We don't have that kind of coverage and it took moving heaven and earth for one overnight night out for us in January. GO!

  • Yes Go! DH and I left our kids with my mom for a 5 day trip to Jamaica in May and it was wonderful!!! It was very good for our marriage. My mom did take the kids to DC during the day so it wasn't too overwhelming. Maybe you can get some babysitters or mothers helpers to help out while you're away.

Yes, of course!  We have left DD several times for a week or so with my parents so we could go on vacation.  It's awesome to get away ALONE with just DH.  In fact, I'm leaving to meet up with DH in Europe where he is working tomorrow for a week!

  • If you want to and they don't mind, why not?  I'm the type of person who feels very guilty when I'm not with my kids and although I've dreamed of a vacation w/out them, I know that within a day or 2 I'd totally regret it and get very upset when I see kids with their parents enjoying a family vacation.  I know my kids would be ok without me, but I know I wouldn't be.
