March 2014 Moms

Pretty late introduction!

Hi ladies! I've been part of the bump for a little bit now but I've been over on the May mommies page. My husband and I went to my first appointment yesterday, thinking I was somewhere between 9-11 weeks...turns out I'm actually around 16! We will get a more accurate date when we go to my first ultrasound appointment next week. Just wanted to say hi :) I'm still soaking everything in as it feels like a month went by in a matter of minutes ;) I hope everyone is having a great week and I look forward to getting to know you guys and hopefully sticking around on this board! :)

Re: Pretty late introduction!

  • Welcome! Hope you're feeling great, crazy that you are so much farther than you thought. How did they estimate how many weeks you are w/o an us? Just curious bc my doc does an us at every appointment (he just peaks even w/o charging insurance, he says its more accurate to know things are good). Even if your dates get pushed back you're welcome to stay with us!

  • I thought the same thing! I was disappointed when he said that I had to schedule an ultrasound because I thought that meant I wouldn't get a timeframe at that appointment. (I had kept getting negative home pregnancy tests but knew something was up, so it had been very frustrating for a while!) He ended up doing something similar to a pelvic exam and he said he was checking for here my uterus was sitting(?) He did say that it wasn't as accurate as an ultrasound, obviously, but that he could tell I was "much farther along than 9-11 weeks" and "right around 16." This is my first pregnancy and I've never heard of that type of thing. I'm looking forward to getting a more accurate date next week :)
  • Welcome & congrats!

  • A Dr can feel where the top of your uterus is and they measure from the top of your pelvic bone to the top of the uterus and however many CM it is equals to the number of weeks pregnant you are or there about depending on the size of the baby, I was always told by my OB they start doing this around 20 weeks, which is why your DR couldn't give you a perfect number of weeks based on the size.
at least that is my best explanation for it based on my last two pregnancies.

    Welcome to march14!

  • Welcome!  Consider yourself lucky - I would have loved to skip weeks 9-12, at least.

    Welcome to march14!
This is a great explanation actually! :) thank you!
  • Thank you for such a warm welcome ladies! Lets just say I was glad that I finally had confirmation that I wasn't crazy when I was getting those negative tests early on! Lol!
  • That was how my OB checked the size of the baby, and to make sure I was on track with my first two.
He was very hands on, very honest, and very forward about what he was doing, which I am still glad of since I am using the same information, suggestions with this pregnancy.

I know how you feel about the negative test's, I took three the month before I got my positive, same thing happened with my second, can't wait for my U/S to see how far off my due date is.
