Went to ER last night...

I'm 20 weeks today. Yesterday I started getting back pain that got worse and worse throughout the day. It was mostly on my left side of my back and the pain would come all the way to the left side of my uterus.
Went to the ER and All test results came back and the dr concluded that I had an inflamed kidney due to babies sitting on my ureters, early stages of a kidney infection and round ligament pain. They started me on a low dose of antibiotics and I went home.
Now today my back is still hurting, more annoyance pain than really bad pain like yesterday.
Anyone experience anything like this? I'm a little scared only because I'm only 20 weeks....is this how I'm going to feel the rest of my pregnancy?

Re: Went to ER last night...

  • I'm glad everything checked out ok but I am sorry you are still not feeling well.

I have no advice other than that my pain, uncomfortableness, symptoms, etc. change pretty much weekly.  Like at 24 weeks, I had pretty terrible back pain that went away after a massage.  I haven't had any again.  Now I am having a little hip uncomfortableness.

So, I guess I am saying that I wouldn't expect that to continue forever after but maybe for a while.  Hopefully the abx will work quickly and that will relieve some of the pain!

  • I had a kidney infection a few years ago (not while pregnant) and it was honestly the most painful thing I have ever experienced. No position was comfortable, hot/cold packs would help for a minute or two and that was it. In my case though, i was stupid...I knew I had a UTI and waited too long to go to the doctor because I didn't want to miss work...and then ended up missing three days because of the kidney infection. It ended up taking about 5 days for me to feel better, but my kidney infection was full blown. Hopefully since your doc found it early it will not take that long! You will feel loads better after the infection clears up, but depending how LO's are positioned you may still have some discomfort. Hopefully those kiddos will move and give you some relief quick!
