When did your doctor start talking about your delivery?

I'm 28 weeks and see my MFM tomorrow. We haven't talked about my plan for delivery yet (except for our first appointment with my OB when they said I'd have a repeat c-section no later then 38 weeks). I see my OB next week as well.

Who makes the plan for delivery? MFM or OB? When did you have the discussion if you were having a c-section?

Thanks!

Re: When did your doctor start talking about your delivery?

  • Our perinatologist made the call of how far they thought I should carry. Once he documented that specifically in his report my OB went ahead an scheduled my c/s. I was around 31w or so when we had the discussion and scheduled the c/s. I ended up going into ptl and delivering at 33w so none of it mattered anyway.

  • I just had my 35 week apt with my MFM yesterday and this was the first time we discussed it. He said he'd like to see me go 2 more weeks if possible. I have an apt with my OB on Friday so I imagine she and I will talk about a specific date to schedule.

I had the steroid shot at 32 weeks as a precaution due to having more than normal contractions and a fear I would go into PTL.  Baby A is still breech so I'm sure we'll move forward with a CS at this point.

  • We talked about it at my 20 week and came up with a birth plan together. He wrote down what I wanted and how I wanted things to go so he could do what he could to make that happen. Each week as things change ( like say with the hospital bed rest and short cervix possible IUGR etc.) He will sit down with me again and make modifications so I am still happy and things stay safe for babies. He was realistic but very flexible. Doing it back then gave us time to change things as we go along which has been very nice and I don't feel out of control or left in the dark. My MFM gets a copy of it as it changes and he will add in side notes or suggestions as he will be the one to deliver should they come before week 36. I would say its best to do it sooner than later.

  • I only had an OB. He didn't even mention delivery until I started have growth discrepancies at my 34 week 1d appt. He scheduled induction for the following week at 35w1d incase I needed it which I didn't make it to. I was going in for a couple NSTs and BPPs before the induction to see if I could go another week or not.

We started talking about it when I started PTL issues at week 24. The OB decided that we would go to week 37 and my MFM confirmed that would work for the babies. My OB and MFM work very closely together. We know we have to do a C section since they have been breech and transverse for 12 weeks now.

  • I'm only seeing an ob. We talked about delivery at my first appointment (8 weeks) he's on board for a vaginal delivery as long as the first baby in line is head down.
  • My induction was planned the week before. but it was vaginal
