Yeast diaper rash help?

My DS has developed a nasty looking rash on his inner thigh/groin area right where his diaper rubs. It looks like a combo of chaffed skin and red, puffy spots and bumps. Doesn't seem to be hurting or bothering him, but it sure looks nasty. I consulted Dr. Google and it looks like it might be a yeast rash. Any of your DCs had a yeast rash before, and have you had luck treating it? It looks like an anti-fungal will help it since so far standard diaper rash cream hasn't done anything for it.

Re: Yeast diaper rash help?

  • We are dealing with one now. Doc said triple antibiotic cream 4 times a day and to take diapers of and let her air out at least twice a day. It's only been 24 hrs ad looking much better.

  • Yes! Lotrimin or clotrimin (generic). My doc said 2-3x per day. The other diaper changes make sure to keep a barrier so liquid can't easily get to the skin. Aquaphor, A&D, Vaseline.... Stay away from the creams as they rub away from the skin much easier.

  • Lotrimin, covered in aquaphor or vaseline to keep it on.  Triple antibiotic doesn't work on yeast.

  • Yep - dd had one a couple of weeks ago. It was ugly- ended up taking her to the pedi. Triple paste worked well (the prescription we got didn't help at all) - and yes on the barrier cream, our pedi said to do coat it in Vaseline as well

  • Ours got so bad we needed RX Poop goop -- now we use triple paste as a preventative. Or maybe it is called triple cream? I can't remember. It is good, and doesn't smell as badly as desitin.
