Hello! New here

Hi ladies, I usually lurk on the 9-12 board but now that I found this board I hope to be a regular. My LO is 10 months old...I know I need a siggy What else? I'm a FTM, I am also SHM! So, I'd u don't mind, I have a question. My LO has been having nap issues. I think part of it has to do with the fact that he is starting to learn how to walk. He usually goes to be at 7:30. 7 on bad nap days. He always sleeps till 6:30, 7 am if I'm lucky ( mama likes her sleep) his first nap used to be 9 but now is 9:30. He wakes up at 11 religiously. Here is the problem, sometimes his am nap has been 2 + hours long and then he won't nap in the afternoon. And if he does its for 20 min. He is sleep train. I have noticed he gets tired around 1 or 1:30 but I don't lay him down because he usually stay up longer. So here is my question, am I being stubborn, and I should lay him down at 1 even though its only been 2 hours of wake time? Is it normal for him to go back to sleep so soon? Thanks for any input

Re: Hello! New here

  • Hi and welcome!

It seems that some of our babies have been transitioning to different nap schedules. I know my DS is really iffy about his 2nd nap of the day. I try to do the 2, 3, 4 schedule to help keep his naps in some kind of routine. His second nap is always short, maybe 30-45 minutes.

Some days I have to just watch for his cues. Sometimes when he is teething or had a bad night or bad naps he gets tired quickly during the day.  If he is tired I don't think I would force him to stay awake. That only ends up in horrible melt downs in my house!

I let him tell me when he's ready. I mean, your LO is napping after just 2 hours after waking in the morning so it's not abnormal. Baby is just tired. My LO wakes at 6:30/7 also and naps from 10-11:30/12. Then the afternoon is hit or miss. At 3 or 4 I always try to put him down for a nap. Sometimes he sleeps 45 minutes, sometimes another 2 hours and sometimes not at all. Also LO is sleeping great at night so I wouldn't worry too much!

  • Welcome!

I'm in a similar boat with you with the naps.  I work full time and during the week M is with a sitter 2 days, my mom 2 days, and MIL one day.  The sitter has really good luck getting her to nap, but my mom and MIL are struggling with the second nap as well.  On weekends, I've been having bad luck.  I think it's a combo of M being excited that I'm home and her also learning to walk.  I just try to give her a nap, but not push it too much.  If she is clear that she doesn't want to nap, then we move on to something else.  I wish I had better advice for you, but I just try to roll with her mood instead of trying to push naps too much.

  • Welcome! As for naps I would watch LO, if he's tired let him sleep.
  • I would also just let him nap when he's ready.  As long as his bedtime/nighttime isn't effected.

    And Welcome!

  • Welcome!!  I'd let him down when he's tired, even if he hasn't been up that long.

  • LO is starting to transition too.  She goes to bed at 7:30 and wakes btw 6 - 7.  Usually goes back down for 45 min an hour after she wakes up.

She has been skipping her morning nap and going down for an afternoon nap from 1 - 2 or 3 and then sometimes again for 1/2 at 5 pm.

Things are changing but I def try to put her down when she's cranky.

  • Thank you everyone!
