NBR: Brazilian Straightening Treatment

I am considering doing one of those straightening treatments for my hair before I go back to work to save time in the morning.

My hair is a bizarre texture that is wavy, curly and straight all in different places so I always blow out and flat iron. This is a 30 min process. I would rather have 30 extra minutes for snuggling LO.

Has anyone done this? Did you like the results or did it ruin your hair?

  • I really want to do it also! I have a friend who has been doing it for two years and loves it! Her hair looks great and hers is normally super curly, it is expensive though!

I feel like the expense would be worth the extra time though--time is money. :-)

  • My SIL does it and loves it. I think her hair looks so shiny after she has it done. At least you are willing to fuss with your hair, mine has been in a ponytail all week at work, :D

I have been on mat leave for 2.5 months and my hair is always in a ponytail now. It looks like hell though. My hair also doesn't look good up. It's too thin and always parts. So annoying. Why can't I just have good hair??

  • Yup, I've had both a Brazilian blowout and a Global Keratin treatment several times and have always been very happy with the results...especially the results of Brazilian Blowout

  • I did it a couple years ago and it was great! The first few days after you get the treatment you can't wash your hair. So do it on a Thursday, maybe. My hair is curly and after the treatment I didn't have to do anything to it, just let it air dry and it was super straight.
  • I have never had the Brazilian straightening, but I have done the keratin treatment and I was not happy.  It did not make my hair as straight as I wanted it (my hair is similar to what you described- wavy/curly and thick).  I definitely have heard that the Brazilian treatment is more effective (but harsher, which is why some people opt for the Keratin treatment).  So just speaking from personal experience, if you are looking at different options the Keratin treatment may not be what you are looking for.

  • I have heard good things about the Brazilian blow out from my hairdresser friends and mom. They use chemicals with formaldehyde so sometimes you smell for a little. I can however attest to keratin treatments. You need to know how much protein is in your hair ahead of time. If you use sulfate free shampoo they add protein. If you use a protein boost etc. your hair will break. I had mine done by a professional who does them all the time. And I lost 10 inches. Not kidding!! So I warn for keratin because too much protein turns your hair into brittle stretchy spaghetti hair that breaks off!!

Yep I totally agree!!!! I'm thinking my first paycheck when I go back to work is going to go to this!
  • Ok I have never heard of this but I'm intrigued. I have frizzy/wavy/curly/straight thin hair. I have to blow dry & straighten it whenever I wash it, but it never looks great. So after you get it, you can just wash & go??

That's the idea, it's like a reverse perm.

Good to know! I always use sulfate free products. I am leaning toward Brazilian blow out because I thought the keratin thing was more of a "smoothing/conditioning" treatment than a straightening one.
