Hospital Gown

I looked around and couldn't find a thread right off, if I missed it please feel free to ignore this and just direct me to it

it's late and I can't sleep, so my eyes could have failed me.

I keep seeing these super cute maternity hospital gowns all over etsy (that site takes all my money) and the reviews on those website say people love them, but has anyone on here actually used them/had their own gown for the hospital? Was it worth it? I figured I could just put one hospital gown on forward and one on backwards to cover everything, but I won't lie that sounds like I may have a mess of gown to deal with until delivery.

Just want some ideas before I make a purchase (or maybe even try to make my own???). Thanks y'all!

It all depends on your hospital and OB - many won't allow you to bring your own and I highly doubt they will allow you to wear two for extra coverage. There is a reason they have you only wear a hospital gown and it is so they have easy access for monitoring and in the event of an emergency. I would definitely check with your hospital before making a purchase like this.

If you want a nice, comfortable one for recovery, that makes sense, although there will still be a lot of blood and it may not last long enough to make it financially worthwhile. But for actual laboring, it may be so messy that you are going to want to take that thing off as soon as its over.

I understand wanting to feel pretty and empowered during L&D and getting to pick what you wear...but those things are like $60 and for something you're ONLY going to wear once that's way too much money to spend. I just ordered a cute waffle bath robe to wear during labor and post-delivery instead and that was only $35 (also off Etsy). Then at least that's something I can have for years and wear around the house, too.

I feel like they're one of those things that is cute in theory, but not super practical. But--I'm a really practical person. If you're dead set on it, as PPs said, ask your Dr./hospital. For me, I would like to wear a sports bra or cami but I think so many people will be all up in there that I probably won't care when the time actually comes....

I don't get the point of them, honestly. My MW has already told me I can wear whatever I want as long as I'm laboring (c/s would be different) so I'd rather just wear my own clothes or skip clothes entirely.

I personally think they are a wast of money. It's going to get ruined so if you want to look/feel good! Do your hair and make up during early labor, paint your nails, something.

Even though I'm a FTM I have decided to just go au naturale (sp?). I just bought a bandeu top (a section of stretchy fabric) to wear over my boobs, and then I'm going naked. I forewarned my support people (DH, mom and sister-in-law) and non of them even batted an eye, they said go for it. Though, I'm not particularly bashful.

Just wear the hospital gown. You will have poop, fluid, blood, etc. all over that gown. No need to waste your money.

I find most hospital gowns to be comfy and fairly modest (our hospital has ones that tie at the side after wrapping around). So I don't get the point of spending money on something that will get all messy and might have to be cut off me anyway.

I bought a gown (brand name pretty pushers) They sell it in the gift shop at the hospital that I will be having at.

Reasons why I bought it- it has a few ties in the front. they can get the monitoring belts on and off easily.

It scoops way down in the back- no need to remove for epidural insertion

It cost 25.00. if it does get messy I will not feel bad about throwing it away.

Thank you everyone. That was my back and forth; mainly coverage because I would like to go without medication (if possible) so id like to be able to walk around the halls without feeling too exposed. But I'm definitely realizing that they may not be worth the money due to the fact that they will most likely get ruined.

As a FTM I just wanted to check around because post on websites selling them can make you think they are the best, but clearly I have no actual experience in the laboring and delivery area of the birth process.

Just wear the hospital provided one. The will rip it off you anyways and by the end it will be so gross, you will be happy to see it thrown in the big red biohazard trashcan. If you are concerned about modesty in the hallways, then bring a robe that you can put on to walk around with. I actually was only there at the hospital for a few hours before DS was born because I labored at home then went when they were must closer together. By that time, the hospital I delivered at wouldn't even let me walk the hallways. Also, my OB and hospital did not allow you to wear anything but the hospital provided. I even had to wait for the go ahead after the birth to change into my own clothing.
