IVF and BFing

Hi ladies - I hope you are all well! It has been a loooong time since I was here (9 months to be exact) but I wanted to ask a question based on your experiences:

We moved last year before H was born so we will have to see a new RE to do IVF #2 next spring. Everything I have been reading tells me most REs won't let you BF and do IVF, I have an appointment with my new Dr, but not until December and I will of course do whatever he says, but if I do have to wean before my next cycle I need time to psyche myself up about it, KWIM? It may make me delay IVF #2 for a few months, so I am trying to collect my data and set my expectations before my appointment in 2 months.

I have always been told you need to wean before stims.. And I totally understand needing some time to pysche yourself up!! Good luck with the appt

I hear you... I probably would've done my second ER earlier (we did an ER/Fert/Freeze in Jan because we weren't ready to attempt a transfer and didn't want to wait longer because I'm old) if my DS had weaned earlier - which I honestly thought he would! I hated the thought of actually refusing him, but at 2 I finally just denied him once and he was totally, totally fine... Should've done it months sooner (hindsight...)

Howdy! Good to "see" you! We were due around the same time. Hope you are enjoying being a mama.

There is a gal on the AP board that didn't wean for IVF. She didn't tell her RE. They were successful. She said they were wiling to take the risk of cycle failure. She had done a lot of reading and carefully nursed around med doses. I can probably dig up her sn if you want to page her.

Yep, I had to wean to start on DHEA and definitely for stims. The lead up to weaning was really hard and my RE told me not to rush it and to wait until I was 100% ready before proceeding. GL.

Hi!! Good to hear from you!!

We are doing an FET in January so my RE did say I needed to wean 3-4 months before then. I think it's more for the success rate than the meds affecting baby, but I could be wrong. I weaned DD a few weeks ago and it was easy for her but very difficult for me. GL with your decision!

Thanks ladies, good to see you all too! I hope to be more active now that we have gotten into our groove.

While I am not ancient, I am 36 years old, so I don't have the luxury of waiting too much longer. The more I read about it, it seems as if the hormones from BFing can make the cycle less productive and at 10k a pop I will more than likely just wean so I have the best chance possible. I could work around the meds but if it didn't work, I would blame that and I don't know if it is worth it

While he likes to nurse - he isn't a crazy boob baby and I pretty much have to beg him to nurse during the day on the weekends when we are home so he may wean easily then - nighttime will be harder. The anticipation is already killing me though!
