Tested positive for antibodies??

During the 9 week normal blood test/screen I tested positive for antibodies although it's low, which is good. They tested again at 13 and again I tested positive, but low. I'm told it's something they will monitor every 4 weeks thoughout my pregnancy to make sure my ratio doesn't get higher? (Higher than 1:16). The internet is scaring me and the PA wasn't helpful and I don't see my dr for another 3 weeks so just wanted to see if anyone else has gone though this. Thanks!

    I don't understand - everyone has antibodies, that's what your immune system makes.  What antibodies did you test positive for?

    re: "the PA wasn't helpful" - In general, if your medical provider can't or won't explain your condition to you in language you can understand, I think you need to find a different provider.  Did you ask for additional explanation - did you tell him you didn't understand what you were being told?  It's really important to be clear when talking with your providers and make sure they understand your needs.  They have access to your personal records and can give you far better answers than anyone on the internet (including Dr Google) could ever give.

    I called back to ask for a call back from the Dr since I still have concerns and questions. But I don't THINK it has to do with the rH since both my husband and I are A+. I read that it means I've been exposed to foreign red blood cells that can be caused from a blood transfusion (which I haven't had) or pregnancy itself. if it stays low, it isn't a problem, but if it gets higher it can travel through placental wall and attack baby making it anemic. The answer my PA gave when I asked what happens if it gets higher was that they'll deliver baby. I asked, what if that happens around 20 weeks or earlier than term. She said, that's why we monitor it and hope it doesn't get higher??? grrr. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've never had this before so just have lots of questions/concerns. Hoping dr calls back soon. I know there is nothing I can do to prevent it from getting higher so I just have to monitor it every month. Just wondering what others experience was with this if anyone else went though it.

    Is your husband the father of your older children?  If you developed Rh incompatibility in a previous pregnancy it can persist.


    Ignore me.  I just realized I'm completely wrong - you can only get Rh incompatibility if you're Rh neg since you can't make a Rh neg baby as a Rh pos person.  Sorry - college bio was a long time ago!

    Yes, same dad for all three and we've never had this happen with previous pregnancies. This is the first time I've had this happen.

    Did you get a Rhogam shot?  I'm RH negative and when I had bleeding early on they gave me Rhogam and afterwards I tested positive for antibodies.  The doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about since I had just had the injection.  I'm not sure if that might be something to ask your doctor about?

    Yes the exact same thing is happening to me this preg. First time and this is my 5th baby. Dr said + blood types can build up antibodies towards - blood over time. I'm being retested at 28 weeks

    It's not the Rh factor, it's something different. They said they will retest me every 4 weeks and if it gets higher they will test more frequently and do more frequent ultrasounds. The fear is that the antibodies can attack baby. Redshoe95- sounds same as yours. Surprised they aren't testing again till that long though? I'm still learning a lot. Thanks!

    My sister had it with e antibody. Each one is a little different but she had it with her second pregnancy. Blood test every 2-4 weeks to.monitor. didn't effect her or the baby in the end.

    Yeah, I was surprised they were waiting that long too. They said it was only faintly positive and that they would check again the same time as my glucola test

    They said i'm too low to tighter what exact antibody it is. If i'm positive at the end of this month again they'll send me to the hospital for a more specialized blood test. Thanks everyone!
