Late Term and Child Loss

D and C tomorrow

Hey everyone,
Looking for some support here:) I have a d&c scheduled for tomorrow morning and I am ridiculously nervous. My first miscarriage happened naturally, and I am honestly just so worried about the sedation! They said I would be getting propofol, so no breathing tube (unless in the event I need it bc of emergency), and I am so afraid my body is going to stop breathing and the thought if being out for all of this is not settling well:( please, does anyone have any advice or experiences to share? I'm desperate! Thanks in advance!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  Most of the women on this board have experienced loss very late in pregnancy or the loss of a child... so I'm not sure how many can answer this question.  You will probably get more responses on the miscarriage/pregnancy loss board.  Again, so sorry for your loss.

  • Thank you! Didn't see that board:)
  • I just wanted to say that not everybody that has a d&c or d&e belongs on the miscarriage board. In this case it seems that she did, but please don't assume that when she hadn't stated how far along she was. I was 21 weeks pregnant (pregnancy dated at an earlier ultrasound) when we found out my baby's heart had stopped but because he was measuring so small my doctor did a d&e instead of me delivering. So just wanted to say that you can't assume that means it was an early loss :)

I didn't assume....she said her first miscarriage was natural, inferring that this was also a miscarriage. I also just thought that even though there are some women here who have been through it, there would be more on that board, so I was trying to direct her where she could get more answers. Didnt mean to offend anyone.

  • Hi there, I'm so sorry for your loss. I too had a miscarriage & d&c in July. I was terrified to go "under" bc it was my first time. I really thought I was going to die in my sleep. It was the worst feeling. I was told 2 weeks before about my missed miscarriage and felt awful that I was walking around still having it inside me. That said, I shook until the min they gave me the anesthesia. When I woke up, I felt like a weight had been lifted. I had zero side effects from the procedure and anesthesia. I couldn't believe how sick I had gotten myself over it. I really just felt like I could finally move on- a second chance on a blank slate. Even though it is so hard, please do not be scared. The chances of something going wrong are so minimal. It is a quick (15 min) procedure.
