No more naps=my life is over

My 3 year old (he will be three Oct 11th) has officially said "bye bye" to nap time. I want to cry and scream ugly tears. That was my time to meal plan, clean, cook, and pay bills. We tried "quiet time" in his room, but he threw huge fits and woke up his brother that WAS napping. Also, he gets wild and crazy come 3pm, b/c he is so over tired.

Anyways, no real point of this post, other than for some sympathy.

  • I dread that day. When will I pee in peace if naptime doesn't exist??? You have all of my sympathies.

  • That is awful.  Yesterday I used naptime to take a nap myself!  That time is sacred.

  • I'm dreading the day this happens :(

  • I'm sorry!

One of the few scheduling positives that I'm hoping for with having kids under 18 months apart is that hopefully DD will continue to take naps for a while and I hope to have them take at least one nap per day at the same time!

    I am sorry!

My 3-year-old rarely naps, but she does do quiet time at least.

And I second the preschool suggestion. It is probably too late for this year, but DD goes two mornings a week, and DS usually naps while she is gone, so twice a week I get TWO breaks a day. So nice.

But you definitely have my sympathy! Will he quietly entertain himself somewhere other than his room? Like you could institute coloring time or Lego time for say 30 minutes at the kitchen table while you work on something else? Good luck!

ETA: It used to be painfully obvious which days DD hadn't napped by how cranky she was in the late afternoon/early evening. But now it's not such a big difference. We moved her bedtime from 8 p.m. to 7 p.m. on days she doesn't nap, and there usually isn't a meltdown anymore (though even with the early bedtime, there was at first). So hang in there. The 3 p.m. crankies won't last forever!

  • Keep trying? I have 3 stepchildren ages 4, 5 & 7. My 4 y/o stepson still naps for several hours. My 5 y/o step daughter falls asleep most of the time and my 7 y/o stepson still takes a time out in his room while the others nap. He watches a movie or plays on his nook so we can have a break.

  • All I can say is embrace the earlier bed time.
I was excited when DD1 was done with naps at 3. Then we could do whatever we wanted during the day. But I also didn't have DD2 yet. So we were more flexible.
