Bottle for breastfed baby

I would like my baby to take a bottle sometimes but haven't found one that works. He gags on Avent. Tommee Tippee was better but seemed like the flow was too fast. What bottles does your breastfed baby like?

Re: Bottle for breastfed baby

  • Dr. Browns

  • Tommee tippee with the 0+ nipple.

  • We are lucky, and DS will take any bottle we offer him (so far!), but DH says he does best with Dr Browns.

This is us too. We use avent. LO will suck on anything close to her mouth but she only gets a bottle while at daycare.
  • Dr. Browns. DS1 liked the narrow and DS2 seems to prefer the wide bottles.

I looked for a slower nipple but didnt see it online. I'll check in stores.

  • They make slow flow 0 month nipples for the tommee tippee.. We use them. BRU should have them. They came with our 5 oz bottles.

  • Dr Browns here too.

  • Tommee tippee here also but we make sure not to tip the bottle back so she gets a little at a time

  • Dr Browns. DH does the bottles and that's the only one he'll use.
  • Dr browns w a slow flow nipple. Though I have forceful letdown so I prob could go up but they already inhale their bottles in 10min so the longer the better

This is us, too. No issues with them and we've been using them since DS was born (we had to supplement for a week for jaundice).

  • Layla will only take Medela. Refuses Dr.Brown and Avent.
  • Playtex air vent
DS does well with it and it helps reduce a LOT of air intake, plus it is VERY comfortable to hold while feeding him.
Feeling like a big bloated hormonal whale of a tale. It's awesome.

    Avent... sorry that doesn't help.

ETa: which Avent nipple are you using? LO gags on the wide one sometimes but not the cheaper one.

  • Right now we use playtex nursers which work pretty well. I just ordered a new bottle called BARE because it's supposed to closely mimic the breast. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out

Ds will take whatever bottle we give him so far but now he is starting to refuse the breast once the flow slows down. I've noticed the "slow flow" nipples are all very different. We tried the nipple that came with the medela pump and that was the fastest, followed by the Tommee tippee slow flow, and then the avent natural slow flow (slowest of the ones we tried). Friends of mine have had the same problem And they recommended playtex drop-ins with a natural latch nipple? I haven't tried it yet but will be going to target today to find it!
  • Avent... sorry that doesn't help.

I think it is the cheaper one. I have one that came with the pump and the five pack of bottles and baby doesn't do well with either.
  • It's only been a few times but so far my LO has taken the life factory glass bottle with the slowest flow nip but not the medela one. I haven't tried any others yet. I also have a forceful letdown/ flow so she may be used to it.
  • We didn't use the normal avent bottles, but my LO prefers the Avent Natural newborn bottles.
  • We are using Playtex newborn nursers and Playtex vent air....he likes both. I like them because they come with slow flow nipples and can be used for both bottles.

  • Playtex ventaire with slow flow nipple, recommended by my lactation consultant.

  • We tried Avent, Tommee Tippee, and Dr. Brown's. Dr Brown's are the only ones we use now. DD inhales her food (just like daddy) and would cough and choke a lot with the other bottles.

This.  My LC recommended these bottles.

He gagged on Born Free and Dr. browns . . as well as the medela ones.
  • Dr browns with a preemie nipple. The size 1 were too fast.

  • Dr Browns.
  • Medela. We used the regular ones with DS1. With DS2 I have been using the new Medela bottles that are supposed to simulate breastfeeding more. These would help you if you are concerned about fast flow.
