I use baby wash clothes and a couple weeks ago my mom suggested keeping a roll of tp in my changing area to wipe the worst of the poop off of his bottom first -- it's been working great since now I don't have to worry about trying to rinse the wipe and it gets flushed when I take care of the diaper.

I have homemade, single-layer, serged flannel wipes. Love them. Before I got those, we used baby washcloths, but I like the flannel better. Seems to grab poop better instead of smearing it around, and this way we can sorta keep a separation between what we use for poop and what we use for baths & mealtime cleanup.

I made my own wipes. I took 2 pieces of 8" by 8" flannel and sewn them together. I foild them and put a stack into my wipes warmer and pour liquid on top. Easy peasy.
I have half Imagine brand flannel and fleece wipes and half baby washcloths. The fleece is not my favorite, I'm thinking of tossing them and getting more washcloths.

This is seriously brilliant. Why oh why have I not been doing this!?!?!?
Why not just buy disposable wipes then?
I guess toilet paper would be cheaper and could be flushed. I'm thinking of the TP we usually use though, and it would totally fall apart into DD's giant poops and just be nasty. No thanks.

I put wash cloths but also use a cut up handme down receiving blanket. I like those for when we are out because they are thin and fold up easily into the pampers travel wipes case I got for free somewhere.
I mostly have store-bought wipes b/c I hate baby washcloths since they roll up. The Grovia wipes are my absolute favorite. They are super soft but also good at grabbing poop b/c of the terry texture. I just wish they weren't white. I also have Thirsties (very soft...not as grabby), single layer flannel, and other oddballs. I also recently started making double-layer flannel wipes. They're not difficult to make, but since I find it hard to make time to sew, we only have 3 so far.

Exactly, we don't use disposable wipes because they are not flushable... if the tp doesn't work to clean off the bottom while they're in diapers, how is it going to clean off the bottom when they're not in diapers? The mess going into the toilet and not being smeared against the skin argument doesn't hold up in my experience with my family.

We use disposable wipes (I have cloth but just got annoyed with them) but to save on money and waste, I too keep a roll of TP at the changing station and use it first - try to just use 1 wipe on bm changes.
The TP is flushable, cheaper than wipes, and we use nice TP (either charmin or cottonelle) so it holds up.
I think the TP thing is smart because it can be flushed. Disposable wipes are a pita because I don't want to have stinky poop trash. Plus I don't like putting human waste in my trash.
We've used TP for a few months now, and it is awesome. I think it was DH's idea. I don't mind scraping and rinsing diapers, but I don't want to deal with wipes too. We get off almost everything with TP and then use homemade wipes to clean up.
Mommy to N (3), J (2), and C (10 months). LO4 is due in mid-September.
@kitchencolors Please don't take this wrong, but I had to kind of laugh at "don't like putting human waste in my trash" b/c I instantly wondered what other kinds of waste are more palatable. Zombie waste? Rabbit pellets? Elephant poop? I obviously really need a nap.
I have a bunch of OsoCozy flannel wipes that MIL got me from my registry... (I think she had forgotten she had already purchased them and accidentally double ordered them because I got double what I registered for in two different shipments.) ... And I have a bunch of Circo wash cloths that I got from Target. I far prefer the washcloths over the flannel wipes. I think the terry type material of the wash cloth cleans the bum better when there is seedy BF poop (all I've dealt with so far). I do love the flannel wipes for folding into quarters and covering L's penis with while I change him though. And for patting bums dry before applying sticks or creams.
I use a combo too. I have bummis wipes in my diaper bag because the rainbow serving is cute. At home I use ones I made with old tshirts cut with pinking shears, also have some baby washcloths. The t shirt ones are still looking good after 8 months, so its a good no sew option.

I hate the rolling too! Doesn't allow for my OCD pile of wipes to match up perfectly even :-B
I use WAHM wipes that I bought from the Etsy shop Tender Bottoms. Her prices are fantastic and I've been very pleased with the quality. I have both her single-ply flannel and the two-ply flannel-and-terry (which are awesome for poo clean up).
Flannel wipes kept irritating A enough to give her rashes, so we switched to sposies. I whipped up some that are OBV on one side and baby loop terry (like a baby washcloth or towel) on the other. They work so much better, the OBVside doesn't irritate her for pee and the baby loop terry is great for poop. My H still prefers disposable since he doesn't like the added step of getting the wipe wet, and he likes the thinness of the disposables.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,

I think she has a fabric store in her home. You could probably shop around In her sewing room. Seriously, ITK, I think I had a vision of this: walking around your fabric room with my head and eyes up in the air, looking around at all the rows of fabric (like Charlie bucket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when he visits the factory) I have no idea if your sewing stuff is like that...but I like to think that it is 8->

I use a bunch of different things! Some disposable, some cloth. My cloth are partially baby washcloths I found on sale at Walmart, some flannel I cut and zigzagged (they suck), and some fleece I cut (they are good soaked, but repel water if you just spray it on!) Overall, the washcloths won out for reusable.

Lol @mandmeesh My sewing room is more of a hellish mess with scraps and projects everywhere. And all of my fabric is packed in the closet. I have a seven? shelf rack that's packed full of fabric. One row is dedicated solely to CD fabric.
Sometimes I think, 'Man I have way too much fabric' as I'm trying to cram a few more rolls of fabric into a packed row, and then I shake it off and go buy more.... Because I need it!

Whoops @Nana_Osaki06 I just saw this! For the baby loop terry, I used an up cycled baby bath towel, but new you can buy it here: https://www.naturesfabrics.com/bamboo-fabric/bamboo-terry/bamboo-organic-cotton-baby-terry.html
OBV is same site, or you can buy through a co op: https://www.naturesfabrics.com/bamboo-fabric/bamboo-velour-1.html
They also double as great soft wipes for faces and noses.
