Nighttime duty question

What's your nighttime routine like these days? Does SO routinely help?

  • Now that DH is back at work, he takes the feedings from 8pm to midnight, and I take anything after midnight. I try to be in bed around 8:30 to get a few hrs of sleep early in the night.

  • I feed and if baby is still awake MH gets up with him.
  • I wonder if we are being productive with our nighttime hours. DH feeds her a bottle and I will pump. So we are both up. He puts her back to sleep. I just pump, eat a snack and go back to bed.

  • When she wakes up hungry SO gets her from the bassinet and brings her to me since I'm BF.  When she finishes one side he burps her and changes her diaper and then I offer the other side and he burps her and puts her back.  If she is just fussy we take turns on who holds and comforts her.

  • When LO wakes up to eat, DH will change him and go back to bed since he is back to work.  I will then nurse him, put him down, and go back to bed.

  • So does her feeding before bed (7:30), and then I out her to bed and do the rest of the hangings/feedings. He works, so he gets to sleep. He does do weekend night duty though :-). Love the weekends!!!

  • When one wakes up, we get the other up. H changes them, I feed them and then I wake him up to help me put them back in their room (it's damn near impossible to get them off me and keep them asleep by myself).

We alternate night wakings for the big one (he'll wake up for water a few times a week).

  • Right now I do the bedtime routine pretty much alone due to DH's work schedule and her bedtime, but once she gets older I think he will be able to participate in it more.  It doesn't bother me since I know it won't always be like that.

However, he makes up for this by giving her a bottle for her first MOTN feeding which lately has been her ONLY MOTN.
  • I'm jealous of you all! If LO is extremely fussy, or poops and pukes on me at the same time (yes, that had happened!) ill wake DH up but otherwise just me.
  • When I don't have classes, DH will get up after I feed him if he is still awake and put him back to sleep.

  • I do it all now that dh is back to work. But LO is really good. He eats and goes right back to sleep, even with a diaper change.

  • DH puts him down for the night, then I do the overnight feeding/changing since I EBF during the week. But if DS wakes up 7-8:30am DH will change him before i feed him.

On weekends for some feedings DH will take it and I'll get up to pump.

  • I feed her and DH changes her and puts her back to sleep. Laila is only up once a night, so it's not usually a big deal.
  • LO has been sleeping 8 hour stretches, so no need for nighttime duty really. MH helos put her to bed, then I wake up and feed her/pump once she wakes.

  • DH keeps DD2 downstairs until she wants to eat/1ish. I go to bed when DD1 does. It means DH and I currently get zero one on one time, but I get 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I'm on my own the rest of the night. That gives DH 6-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep before he has to get up for work.

  • DH changes him then hands him to ne to nurse back to sleep. He also sometimes burps him, just because he's inexplicably better at getting him to burp. Dh is working, but he still expects to help with his son, even at night.
  • I go to bed around 8 and DH takes the night shift. He wakes me anywhere from 3 to 5am depending on when LO wakes. My DH then sleeps until 7:30 then goes to work. Then I am with the wee man until 8 at night.
My DH is awesome to let me get a long stretch of sleep. :)

  • LO goes down between 8-10 and will usually sleep until 4-5. DH will get up and change her and then get ready for work. I feed her, burp and put her back down and then I usually get up and shower to have some me time before DS gets up around 7.

We do the same, but I figure it gives DH some quality feeding time with her, plus I always pump more than she eats at that time, so that's how I am getting my stash filled.

DH is working full time and I'm still on leave for 5 more weeks so I do everything at night and let DH sleep. I try to nap during the day with LO when I can to make up for it.

I do everything right now since DH works and I'm still on leave.

Same here. The only time he gets involved during the week is if she is super fussy and i just can't get her back down and am frustrated (his fresh approach usually works better than my tired pleas for her to go back to sleep). This will change when I go back to work...we'll probably do shifts then.
On the weekends he helps. I usually get a good break on Saturday night and Sunday morning. I've learned one night's good sleep goes a long way through the week!
  • I usually put DD down after her bedtime routine around 8-9 pm (we would share the task, but lately, she will not go down for DH). We stay up until her next feeding around 11-12 to get some one-on-one time, though I'm starting to think I need to go to bed when LO does because I've been falling asleep on the couch lately during our couple time.

We are both on leave right now, so DH does her only real MOTN feeding (usually around 2-3 am), and I get up with her whenever she wakes after that (which has been around 6-7 am the past several nights) so DH can sleep in.

  • LO is STTN now but I'm on duty during week and DH takes over on Friday and Saturday night. Whoever is on duty will put her to sleep around 9-10pm and will wake up with her around 6-7am, as well as any stray MOTN feedings/diaper changes. She's 7 weeks old.
  • I usually do it all. Dh is a heavy sleeper and it can be difficult to wake him. It's less frustrating to do it myself. We'll see if this changes now that he's back to work. I'm on leave for another few weeks

  • I go to bed around 9 while H rocks LO to sleep. She usually wakes up at 2 and then it's all me from there if it's a weekday. On the weekends he helps more, he will usually wake up with her after her morning feeding so I can sleep in.

  • DH always does the diapers while I get myself ready to nurse. Sometimes DH has to wake up after I'm done feeding to burp him if I can't get him to.
  • I'm the only one on duty during weeknights.  DH helps out on weekend nights by taking the second half of the night.  It works for us because DH works crazy hours and I am a SAHM now.

  • I do it all, DH shows his "support" by rolling over onto my side of the bed and keeping it warm for me. But I'm also a SAHM and DH probably works 80 hours a week.
  • He feeds her/changes her while I pump. Then I rock her back to sleep.

  • Eh I still do everything at night with her but I don't mind since its usually only once a night.

If there is a night where she wakes up more then he will get up with me but other than that it's all me.
  • LO has been sleeping 6-7 hour stretch then 3-4 hours. So I do the MOTN. He works a lot, so I don't want to wake him unless necessary.

  • Always. When she wakes up, he will change her and then I nurse her. We work together to get her back to sleep.

    Same here!
  • All me right now...
