Anyone take lexapro?

I have been to work for a little over a month. My students are really bad. I have taken several panic attacks since I've been back. My doctor decided to put me on 10 mg on lexapro. Anyone else take it? Side effects? I really hate medications like this. The only medicine i don't mind taking on a daily basis is my allergy pill.

Re: Anyone take lexapro?

  • Not on this but know people who are...limited side effects if any at all. That is a relatively lose dose as well. I am on Zoloft which is similar and LOVE it.

  • What do you teach? I am a teacher too and I know how hard/stressful it can be. But if you feel like "your students are really bad," maybe it's time to consider if it's really the right job for you ? Not trying to be hateful or snarky at all. I hope you feel better!

  • I was on Lexapro for several years.  Had bad side effects for about 3 days (I was pretty useless while my hormone levels fluctuated) but after that I felt like my old self again.  No more anxiety.  I was very happy with it and only stopped because we were planning get getting KO.  It was pretty easy to wean off of it.

@pinottoparenthood...I've been teaching for almost 10 years and have never had a problem with any of my classes. I was invited to help take over a school last year. My kids were difficult last year. They had their guard up because we were new teachers taking over. This year I have had kids steal from me when I've paid out of pocket for most of their supplies. I've had kids from different classes push me out of their way, etc. I'm not sure it's your place to tell me that maybe doing something I love is not the "right job for me". Besides being a mom, and a wife, teaching is a part of me. I love being the "safe place" for my students, and teaching them new things. I don't appreciate your comment. I asked if anyone has taken the medicine and not for your guidance on my career.
  • I took lexapro for years. I'm no longer taking it but from what I remember, it made me pretty slow and groggy for a few days but afterwards I had little to no anxiety. I was pretty apathetic though too, kinda just couldn't care less. If you decide to take it, just keep an eye on yourself and go back to the doctor with any concerns. GL!

Whoa slow down there. Like I said, I wasn't trying to be rude or hateful. Only asking if you were sure it was what you wanted to be doing. It's great that you're so passionate about your job, and it sounds like your kids are lucky to have you. Honestly, your response to me is WAY snarkier than my original response to you. There's no need to be so defensive. It's a public message board so you don't really get to dictate what I'm "allowed" to talk about in your thread. Good luck with everything.

  • @pinottoparenthood I apologize for being so bitchy. That is not me at all. I do honestly love teaching and can be defensive about it. I understand that this is a msg board and you can write back whatever you please. Again, I'm sorry. I am not a confrontational person and I really should've cooled down a little before I responded to you.
  • Thanks, everyone! I'm getting anxiety about taking anxiety pills. LOL

Thank you, it's fine! I really didn't mean to come off in a negative way or imply that you shouldn't be a teacher. I was just asking an honest question. Believe me, I understand how tense things can get in the world of education. I teach tenth grade, and while I haven't been through all of the things that you describe, I face huge and sometimes disheartening challenges on a daily basis, so I really get it.

  • I guess we are in the same boat, with a huge age gap. I could never teach tenth grade. Bless your heart! I have third grade. Thanks again for understanding!
