Anxious... Baby Movement Question

Im 17 weeks tomorrow and with my first I felt baby move at 17 weeks and had flutters before that. Im getting nervous because I havent felt baby yet. I just wish I could see inside of there so I know if everything is okay! Its so hard to not worry. I hope baby moves soon so I can relax...anyone else freaking out? Have you felt your baby move yet?

Re: Anxious... Baby Movement Question

  • Have you had an u/s yet?  Do you know if you have an anterior placenta?  That can definitely keep you from feeling the baby move until later on, it could also be where the baby is hanging out.

  • I have had an ultrasound at 13 weeks but the placenta was still low at that point and not sure where it would move to as the uterus would grow. My anatomy scan is Oct 25th.... i wish I could hear the heartbeat or something. I get myself all worked up.

  • Even STM's don't always feel movement earlier - it's hard, but try not to stress!  It's not good for you or the baby.  My motto is don't worry until there's something to worry about, it's just not worth it :)

  • I'm a STM and will be 17 weeks tomorrow, and I don't think I've felt movement either.

  • I felt light flutters with my 3rd at 14 weeks and real strong movements at around 18 to 19 weeks, this time around I just started feeling little movement I'm 16 weeks 4 days I guess it's true when they say not every pregnancy and baby is the same, but I can agree I was a little worried as well but not to worried sometime your baby can be in a position that can make it hard for you to feel him or her move ! Hope you start to feel some movement soon :)
  • I just (like yesterday) felt movement and its been few and far between. I know exactly how you feel. I am just trying to be patient and remember that baby gets stronger everyday and to relax. I didn't feel anything until 20 weeks the first time. I do have a doppler so that eases my mind.

  • I'm 16 weeks and definitely felt something twice on Monday but am unsure if it was baby movement or Braxton hicks. So waiting for it to happen again but it hasn't yet.

  • STM here and I didn't feel little flutters until close to 17 weeks and I was a bit nervous. I had my anatomy scan on Tuesday and I have an anterior placenta, which they did not mention at my other ultrasounds so that could be the case for you too. I'm just over 18 weeks and I am feeling "jabs" now!

  • I am also a STM because I felt flutters and a pop here and there but nothing consistent. I know my first moves like crazy! Non stop! So it makes me nervous that this baby seems more laid back. I know I had an anterior placenta with my first and still felt movement all the time!
I am hoping the next couple weeks being on some more wiggles and kicks!

  • I'm 17w3d today (STM) and just this morning felt my first definite kicks. Before that there were some possible flutters but I'm not even sure if any of them were real because I've been pretty gassy.

My friend Lindsey is pregnant with her 3rd and at 28 weeks rarely feels her LO. Her first sign of movement wasn't until like 20 wks!  Her first 2 kids she felt early on.

I didn't feel my kicks unlit 17wks on the nose, a week and a half later I feel like sharkie is trying to test for points of failure for escaping.  (I was begging to feel the flutters and now....well lets just say I'm not so excited when Sharkie kicks my back towards my kidneys, bladder or cervis)

All kiddos are different.  Just cross your fingers that it means you get a calm baby :)

  • I am happy to have stumbled upon this post!! I am just 15 weeks, but I am getting anxious. I know the first time, around the 17th week I KNEW for sure what I felt.... I was hoping to get it earlier this time, there have been a few 'questionable' moments, but I dont know if it was baby or gas. haha

  • I've just started feeling a bit of movement at 17 weeks; not every day and not for very long but it's something! Plus I have my own doppler I use when I'm feeling anxious :p ( 18 weeks tomorrow :) )
  • I am 17 weeks and for the past week or so I have felt a few things, but it is hard to tell. I had a checkup yesterday.  The doctor checked the heartbeat and could tell the baby was moving around a lot.  She said I will really be able to feel the movement within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
  • Anxious too..:/
I am 18 weeks 4 days and haven't felt her today.
I started feeling easy movements at 17 1/2 weeks...there was times when lying u could really feel the bump outside.., but today I lye to feel her, but nothing... I am worried... Also no flutters.

  • I'm 18w1d and went to get a peak at my favorite elective place just to see how baby boy is doing, plus I haven't felt him yet. I have had an u/s at every doctors visit, and he never mentioned an anterior placenta, but I asked the tech today and she confirmed it! So I probably won't feel him until 24 weeks, maybe later. At your next visit just ask the doc if you have an anterior placenta! You'll feel it when you feel it, don't try to force it :-)

  • I've always heard that STM feel the baby sooner.  With my first I definitely felt him move a day before 18 weeks.  I'm 18 weeks today and have not felt anything that I can say is the baby for sure.  I was nervous too, but I do have a doppler and that heart is beating away in there.  Don't worry, it's still early.

  • Thanks everyone... I will just have to wait and hope everything is okay in there in the mean time. It may also have something to do with the fact that I chase my 2 year old around all day and dont have the time to sit and wait for movement like I did when I was pregnant the first time and had a desk job where I was super aware of any feelings...

  • I'm 16.5 weeks - STM - And I've felt a few things, but nothing dramatic.  Baby was doing gymnastics this morning at my appointment and it took the nurse a long time to get trap the baby and get a reading on the heartbeat... I felt nothing.  I know it's coming in the next few weeks though.  This is just the early 2nd tri pregnancy lull.

  • Don't worry. I'm almost at 19 weeks & was having the same concerns. When I saw his movements on the ultrasound yesterday I was much relieved! I'm a first-timer, so it's all new. But they say try not to be anxious about it, by 20 weeks it will be like NFL kick-off in there! :)
  • all babies are different.
    Baby A I feel 10-15x/day
    Baby B I feel 1-2x/day

  • Do FTMs feel first movements later? My doctor told me not to expect anything until around 20 weeks, but I'm 17 weeks right now and I wish I would feel something. It does make me worry sometimes, especially if I'm not starving and I feel pretty normal/not pregnant otherwise.
  • I would feel flutters off and on starting at week 11. Then it just stopped. I was worrying and then around 18 weeks, I felt some more flutters and nudges. But no kicks yet, so don't worry. My Dr. said I should feel them around 24-27 weeks. So we are just fine :) Good luck! You can also call your Dr. to see you and get a Doppler check for the heartbeat if you are scared like me.
  • My understanding of why STM's feel the flutters earlier is because they can recognize & distinguish between real flutters and gas bubbles.

I've had morning sickness to remind me that there's definitely something going on 20,000 leagues under the sea. ;) Except today was my first successful day without Zofran!
