Bedtime getting earlier and earlier.....

Up until about 4 months, LO was going to bed between 8-830. Then we went a few weeks were he was going down between 730-8. But the past two weeks he's been skipping his late nap, which is normally about 5, and then falling asleep between 630-7...and then not getting up again. This is making it difficult to spend quality time with him, play, get a bath, eat dinner, etc since I don't even get home with him until 5 or sometimes 530. Is anyone else in this situation? How do you get everything done before LO falls asleep for the night when you have such limited evening time?

Re: Bedtime getting earlier and earlier.....

  • I have the same issue..its hard..u haven't figured it out yet..I've tried keeping her up later but she knows bedtime and wants no part if anything when its that time

  • Ava did the same thing. We used to start bedtime routine at 8 then it got to where we really struggled to make it to 7. I found that getting her naked buys us about 15 minutes. She also started playing in her bath so that stalls a little too. We've gradually pushed bedtime routine back to about 7:30 but it's taken several weeks. It's definitely hard to rush and not get to enjoy precious time with your baby. Hope you find something that works for you.
  • tell me about it :/  The nights I'm at the salon, I don't get home til 7:30.  Basically enough time to get her in her bath, bottle and bed, if I'm lucky.

  • We have had this issue for a while now. She goes to bed between 6-630. I've tried everything to get her bedtime pushed back but she's not having it

  • Sorry I don't have much advice; we're going through the same thing over here! I think it's normal for them to go to bed pretty early, but that doesn't make it any easier when you're working! I'm lucky... since I'm a teacher, I get to pick my baby up around 3 or 4, so we get a little more time... but yesterday he was a hot mess, and by the time DH came home, he was already nursing and half asleep. DH was disappointed they didn't get to spend any time playing :-( Makes me sad.

Thank you :-) Little bit has her fair share of personality. I love all the other siggy pictures! These babies are so precious.
  • Yup. Both my kids did early bedtimes. It's natural but sucks for our modern lifestyle. I just go with the idea that a sleepy, cranky baby is not fun to be with and they will not benefit from being with you if they are over tired. I try to make the most of the time I have with them when they are awake. And as they get older bed time can be a little later again.
  • I will let Regan take a nap at 7 (or earlier) when he is tired, but then I wake him by 7:30. (Don't flame me for waking a sleeping baby!!) But then we do bed time at 9. It works nicely because my kindergartener goes to be at 8, so 7-730 when Regan is napping is when I give her a bath, then DH takes Regan while I read to DD and put her to bed. SO I get my 1-on-1 time with both kids when I let him take a late nap.

  • Yeah, LO hasn't been napping very well lately, at daycare or at home.  He used to take a longer afternoon nap and thne a catnap in the evening before getting up for a while and going to bed at 9.  The past week it seems (maybe because it is getting darker earlier?), he has been getting exceptionally cranky starting at about 7 PM and wanting to sleep pretty quickly.  Last night he was cranky until about 8, and then went to sleep and didn't wake up until I had to wake him up to go to school at 7 AM!

    My thoughts exactly!
