Anyone else seeing stars?

Every once in awhile (since pregnant) when I bend down and get back up, I see stars. I had an ob appointment today and he said not to worry about it. I was just curious if this is happening to anyone else? Thanks!

  • All the time....no clue what causes it
  • Sometimes... The worst was before I almost passed out in June. I don't like it

  • Yeah its happened to me a few times. I think it has a bit to do with dehydration for me

  • Yeah..I get that sometimes

  • Not stars but I almost passed out and felt really dizzy this weekend. Talked to my midwife at my appt on Monday and she said it was totally normal.

  • Glad to know I'm not the only one! @tootsscott, I don't like it either :-( it makes me think something is wrong even though I now know its not.

  • I get "floaters" all the time when pregnant (this time and last time) - I thought they were a symptom of pre-e, but my blood pressure is super controlled so it's apparently just a pregnancy "thing" - one that I could do without...

  • This happens when I stand up too fast but my BP has been on the lower end of my normal this pregnancy (90/50) which is what I've attributed it to.  I think its normal in pregnancy even without low BP.

  • Yes, I feel like I see stars a lot more too. I think it's because our hemodynamics are changing. We have a lot more blood circulating to help circulate blood to LO. When you stand too quickly in general, you can have orthostatic hypotension. Meaning it takes a few seconds for your body to realize the changes in your position to adjust constriction of your blood vessels to keep your blood pressure the same. Often your blood pressure drops immediately after you stand, your body constricts blood vessels as needed, and your blood pressure then regulates. With pregnancy we have a higher blood volume, and I think it's just harder for our bodies to adjust quickly. I hope that made sense.
  • If I look too far over one of my shoulders I see sparkly stars for several minutes after.... Annoying!
  • All the time, pregnant or not. Been that way for years.
  • I got it all the time before I was pregnant but not now, weird.

  • Yeah, for me it's mostly when I have too much sugar. But it can happen when getting up too fast, etc.

  • This is happening to me every once in a while. My OB said as long as I'm not passing out, it's pretty normal. Some pregnant women just get dizzy. Dehydration is a factor. I always have water with me so I knew that wasn't the issue. Take it easy and drink lots of water! :)

  • Stars and dizziness, as others have said.  I get it a few times a week, if I am standing up straight for too long, or stand up too fast

Same here, and my OB also said it's more common to get them during pregnancy.  My blood pressure yesterday was 116/62, so my BP is looking good and no concerns or pre-e at the moment.  OB said it's just something some women get more frequently when pregnant.

  • I get this all the time, and have just blamed my low blood pressure. Nothing compares to the ammount of stars I see when I'm throwing up though. Pregnancy is so glamorous.
