helmet

LO has to wear a corrective helmet for 90 days - not long, but so far she hates the helmet. The prosthetics people kept sanding it down, but we can see the pressure points. They say it should be fine. Basically, LO sits with this thing on and bats her head. We have only just made it past hour 2 of wear. Maybe she'll get used to it?

We have an appointment with the physiotherapist next week. She'll give us a few exercises and hopefully LO will stop trying to sleep and turn her head only to one side.

Anyway, if anyone else out there has an LO with a helmet I'm happy for insight and advice on care and use etc.. Red's LO was using one, right?

Re: helmet

  • We had one a while ago. We didn't really have too many issues with it.  But he was only 4 months when we go it on.  He wore it about 10 weeks. It made a HUGE difference.  Totally worth the time and effort IMO.  The more they have it on, the less they notice it.   There was also a company here (in Chicago) that decorates them for free (it is a company that does the wraps for the buses).   We had LO's decorated like the Bills football helmet.  People loved it and it made it feel less clinical.  Stick with it.  It gets easier.

  • DS wore one for 8 weeks starting at 6 months. He was a trooper and it really didn't bother him until the end. I'm sure it is harder for you since LO is older. Ditto above comment. We saw great improvement and I'm so glad we did it. DS had some redness initially but they never lasted longer than 2 hours. We had to monitor the redness for the first 48 hours. Stay with it and ask at your appointment or call for tips. GL!
