Update: I really like my ergobaby

I posted the other day about an ergobaby sale (sadly looks like it's over/sold out). Mine arrived yesterday and I thought I'd try wearing DD (19 months, 24 pounds) just to see how it feels on my shoulders/neck. I haven't used a baby carrier for her in at least 6 months, probably more. She took to it like a duck to water! This morning she was super excited when I got it out again. She doesn't want to be in it for very long, but I'm guessing that's probably normal for an active toddler who likes to run around. ;)

After disliking the moby wrap and hating the Baby Bjorn, I really thought baby wearing was out for me. The difference on my shoulders/neck was like night and day between the ergobaby and the bjorn though. If I can wear a 24 pound toddler, I can totally manage this with a tiny new baby. Yay! :)

I know everyone feels differently about baby carriers/wraps/etc. and what works for some will not work for all, but I thought I'd share. (And thanks, @nickiechan, for giving me the motivation to try baby wearing again!)
It's a boy! Born 42 weeks, 2 days.

Re: Update: I really like my ergobaby

  • I love mine, it's the only carrier I've had that didn't hurt my back once the girls got bigger. Now with a cold weather baby coming, I broke down and got the infant insert so I could skip the moby and go straight to the ergo.

I LOVE IT! <3<3<3  Yes, a good carrier can make 100% difference in support and comfort! I'm so glad you like your Ergo!!! You really do get what you pay for in a baby carrier. I know some are pretty hesitate to spend the funds on a nice carrier, but I can't stress this enough. It might be a good short term solution, but if you want to wear often. Invest in a good carrier! I am so happy an excited that this worked out for you!

  • Side note... Keep an eye on https://baby.steals.com/ They sometimes run ErgoBaby carriers too. However, if you are petite you may want to stay away from the 'Sport' model... which is what they carry sometimes. The 'Sport' model is really made for large people and have added length in straps. Also, Boba carrier also does sales every now and then. They are also a ergonomic soft structure carrier.

@nickiechan, do you have a preference between the ErgoBaby and the Beco Gemini?  I have the Gemini, but DD didn't like it very much as a newborn, and I'm trying to find something that will allow me to nurse while wearing LO.  Would a Moby be better for that?  Or should I try the ErgoBaby?  Maybe LO will end up liking the Gemini better than DD did.

Do you have any local groups in your area that you could try on carriers? Each SSC will fit differently on different body types, so preference would be on my body type.  I don't necessarily have a preference between these two carriers. I preferred my Boba 3g over the Ergo (I could get DS higher on my back which I like), however I never got to try a Gemini in action (with a real baby). However, this time around I may invest in a Tula standard carrier. I have a toddler Tula and it is amazing! DH LOVES that thing. I found it easier to nurse in a woven wrap (like a Moby), but I was able to nurse in the Boba and Tula no problem. This is just personal experience between these carriers. I also had the Ergo Sport which didn't fit me well. If I had a better fitting Ergo I may have liked that better.

Boba on left (14 months)... Toddler Tula on right (20 months) (Complete knee to knee support which is added support)

Look at Kinderpack too. I've heard great things about them too, for more of a custom fit. I love our Tula! It is one of the better SSC out there in my opinion. The craftsmanship is amazing and very sturdy. I also don't feel overwhelmed with all the buckles and straps like I do with Kinderpack and other SSC. I am more of a wrapper so straps kind of annoy me.

This was about a month or so ago at Wagmans... and he still very weightless and the carrier did very well even with him a sleep. With having HG and some hip issues I haven't been wearing much, but DH still does.

  • I can't say enough good things about my Ergo. It's so comfortable for me and LO. It's seriously great! I side eye every friend who chooses a different carrier. One of my good friends choose a Baby Bjorn over an Ergo and I know they'll regret it in a few months. Good buy, OP!

    That's awesome!

My friend gave me her brand new (used one time) ErgoBaby, and I'm excited to try it. The Baby Bjorn sucked for me, but my husband liked it. I also tried the Moby Wrap, but it's kind of a pain to get set up, and my son didn't like it.

My 2-yr-old is only 26 pounds. Maybe I should try it out with him before I get too big.
My 2 year old still loves to ride on my back for walks.  I have a Boba soft structured carrier, which is very similar to the Ergo.  We walk the dog every evening an he chooses the Boba more than the stroller. It will be a sad day when my belly gets too big.
